Stephen Dunne (politician)
Stephen Dunne (born 1988/89) is a Unionist politician from Northern Ireland representing the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). Dunne was co-opted to the Northern Ireland Assembly in 2021 representing North Down to replace his father Gordon Dunne, who had resigned due to ill health shortly before his death. Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs; ga, Comhaltaí den Tionól Reachtach; sco-ulster, Laa-Makkan Forgaitherars) are representatives elected by the voters to the Northern Ireland Assembly. North Down (Assembly Constituency)
North Down (, Ulster Scots: ''North Doon'') is a constituency in the Northern Ireland Assembly. The seat was first used for a Northern Ireland-only election for the Northern Ireland Assembly, 1973. It usually shares boundaries with the North Down UK Parliament constituency, however the boundaries of the two constituencies were slightly different from 1983 to 1986 as the Assembly boundaries had not caught up with Parliamentary boundary changes and from 1996 to 1997 when members of the Northern Ireland Forum had been elected from the newly drawn Parliamentary constituencies but the 51st Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected in 1992 under the 1983–95 constituency boundaries, was still in session. Gordon Dunne
Gordon Dunne (4 April 1959 – 20 June 2021) was a Unionist politician from Northern Ireland representing the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). Dunne was a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) from 2011 to 2021, representing North Down. Born in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Dunne was first elected to North Down Borough Council in the 1981 local elections representing the Holywood area. He was re-elected in 1985 and 1989. He lost his seat in the 1993 local elections but regained it in 1997 and sat on the council since then. He resigned from the assembly effective 9 June 2021 due to health reasons, and his son Stephen Stephen or Steven is a common English first name. The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) is a unionist, loyalist, and national conservative political party in Northern Ireland. It was founded in 1971 during the Troubles by Ian Paisley, who led the party for the next 37 years. Ards And North Down Borough Council
Ards and North Down Borough Council is a local authority in Northern Ireland that was established on 1 April 2015. It replaced Ards Borough Council and North Down Borough Council. The first elections to the authority were on 22 May 2014 and it acted as a shadow authority, prior to the creation of the Ards and North Down district on 1 April 2015. The district was originally called "North Down and Ards" but the council was known as "Ards and North Down District Council". Councillors on the transitional shadow authority (prior to the council's official creation) voted on 15 December 2014 to submit an application to the Department of the Environment to change the name to ''East Coast Borough Council'' with effect from 1 April 2015. 2019 Northern Ireland Local Elections
Local elections were held in Northern Ireland on Thursday 2 May 2019. The last elections were held in 2014. 819 candidates contested 462 seats across Northern Ireland's 11 local government districts. 1,305,384 people aged 18 and over were eligible to vote, and 52.7% of the electorate turned out. Electoral system Northern Ireland uses the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system to elect members of local councils and members of the Northern Ireland Assembly. Voters rank candidates in order of preference by marking 1, 2, 3, ''etc.'' to the names of candidates on a ballot paper and can rank as many or as few candidates as they like or just vote for one candidate.
