Stephan Lucien Joseph Van Waardenburg
Stephan Lucien Joseph van Waardenburg (21 February 1900 – 4 April 1975) was the first Dutch-appointed governor of Dutch New Guinea. Early career Van Waardenburg was born in Buitenzorg in the Dutch East Indies to Dirk Adriaan and Stephanie (Gallas) van Waardenburg. After studying "Indology" at the Rijksuniversiteit in Leiden, he served as a government official in Celebes from 1921 to 1931. While serving in this capacity, he met Lucy Mathilde Rickson in Watempone, Indonesia, whom he married on November 7, 1927. He continued his civil service career as secretary to Jambi from 1931 to 1933, at the same time he continued his studies. He became a government official to Bandjermasin from 1933 to 1934, and was part of the head office Administration of the Outer Islands until 1941. The Indonesian Irian Independence Party ( id, Partai Kemerdekaan Indonesia Irian, PKII) was a pro-Indonesian party in the Netherlands New Guinea. The party was established in 1946 by several pro-Indonesian students as a way to support the integration of Papua into the territory of Indonesia. The party's leader, Silas Papare was awarded as the National Hero of Indonesia posthumously on 14 September 1993. The party's ideology was based on Pancasila and Christianity. Guilder is the English translation of the Dutch and German ''gulden'', originally shortened from Middle High German ''guldin pfenninc'' " gold penny".
