State Route 150 (Alabama)
State Route 150 (SR 150) is a state highway that connects the Birmingham suburbs of Bessemer and Hoover in Jefferson County in the central part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The western terminus of the highway is at an intersection with U.S. Route 11 (US 11) and SR 5 in Bessemer. The eastern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with US 31 in Hoover. Route description Since the 1980s, many commercial developments have been built along SR 150 in Hoover. Several large retail developments, including the Riverchase Galleria and the Patton Creek shopping center, are located along or adjoining to this route. A strip center featuring a Wal-Mart Supercenter, Stein Mart, and Academy Sports + Outdoors opened in 2002 approximately west of the Riverchase Galleria. Bessemer is a southwestern suburb of Birmingham in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 26,019 at the 2020 census. It is within the Birmingham-Hoover, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area, of which Jefferson County is the center. It developed rapidly as an industrial city in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In 2019, it was named Alabama's "Worst City to Live in" by 24/7 Wall Street. History The town was founded in the postbellum era by the Bessemer Land and Improvement Company, named after Henry Bessemer and owned by coal magnate Henry F. DeBardeleben. Academy Sports + Outdoors is an American sporting-goods store chain with corporate offices in the Katy Distribution Center in unincorporated western Harris County, Texas, United States, near Katy and west of Houston. For 74 years, it was a privately held company owned by the Gochman family, until its May 2011 acquisition by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts. In October 2020, it was listed on NASDAQ.
