Star TV (Asian TV Networks)
Star TV (standing for Satellite Television Asian Region), is an Asian TV service owned by Disney Networks Group Asia Pacific. In 2008, author Shiau Hong-chi wrote that Murdoch's purchase of Star TV in 1993 was based on a theory of media globalization assuming that people across nations and languages will watch the same TV programs. Shiau says that the original plan for Star TV was to broadcast popular American shows to Asian audience with as little effort as possible. Star Chinese Movies is a Chinese language pay television channel owned by The Walt Disney Company (Taiwan) Ltd. Xing Kong is a Mandarin-language television channel targeting Mainland China, currently owned by Star China Media (a subsidiary of China Media Capital). The channel was originally launched by Star in Hong Kong, but Star later sold the channel to China Media Capital. Star World (formerly known as Star Plus) is an English language entertainment television channel originally launched on 15 December 1991 as Star Entertainment () by STAR TV in Hong Kong as the old iteration of Star Plus. On 30 March 1996, the channel was split into two, when the former became Star World in East and Southeast Asia part of STAR TV's rebranding, and the latter retained the Star Plus name in India and the Middle East.
