Stanton, Derbyshire
Newhall is a suburban settlement located in Swadlincote, South Derbyshire, England. As of the 2011 census it had a population of 776. The village of Stanton is nearby. Newhall village A commuter settlement between Swadlincote and Burton upon Trent the village lies between the A444 to its south and the A511 to its north. To its east is the market town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, very close to the M42 linking Nottingham (NE) and Birmingham (SW). Burton upon Trent is to the west with the A38 heading south to Lichfield and north for Derby and the M1. Slightly further north is the A50 linking the Stoke-on-Trent and the M6 motorway (east) one way and the M1 and Leicestershire (west) the other. Stanton Moor
Stanton Moor is a small upland area in the Derbyshire Peak District of central northern England, lying between Matlock and Bakewell near the villages of Birchover and Stanton-in-Peak. It is known for its megaliths – particularly the Nine Ladies stone circle – and for its natural, wind-eroded sandstone pillars. The Peak District Boundary Walk runs across the moor. Geology Stanton Moor consists of an outlier of Millstone Grit, known as Ashover Grit. This is a coarse-grained sandstone which weathers to produce coarse sub-soils, rich in sand, and the soils themselves are typically podzols. The Ashover Grit sandstone layer lies on top of shale, which in turn lie upon Carboniferous limestone. The whole of the moor is of geological interest as a syncline. Several large, wind-eroded pillars of sandstone are found around the edge of Stanton Moor, and form significant features of its topography. Stanton is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,417 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Montcalm County. It is located at the corners of four townships and incorporates land from each: Day Township to the northeast, Evergreen Township to the southeast, Sidney Township to the southwest, and Douglass Township to the northwest. History Stanton was organized in 1860 when the people of Montcalm County voted to move the county seat here from Greenville, which was the original county seat from 1840. At that time, the County Board purchased from Fred Hall of Ionia and named the city "Fred" in his honor. The family of Levi Camburn was the first to settle here and he became its first postmaster on March 10, 1862. The city was renamed for Secretary of War, Edwin M. Stanton in 1863. Stanton is a home rule-class city in and the county seat of Powell County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,733 at the 2010 census. Stanton is the birthplace of Hall of Fame thoroughbred horse trainer Woody Stephens. History The first post office to be located in present-day Stanton was established on July 7, 1849 and was named Beaver Pond, because of the settlement's proximity to a small body of water resulting from a beaver dam. Stanton upon Hine Heath is a village and parish in Shropshire, England. The River Roden flows through the village. Author Mary Webb (1881–1927) lived with her parents in Stanton from 1896 to 1902, at house then called The Woodlands, later called Harcourt Manor. Another author, Barbara Comyns Carr (1907–1992), died in the village and is buried in the graveyard of the village church, St. Andrew's. Nearby is the village of Moreton Corbet. Running through the parish is the A53, between Shawbury and Hodnet. Stanton-under-Bardon is a village and civil parish about southeast of Coalville, Leicestershire, England. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 634. Most of the houses are red brick, and many on Main Street are terraced and have long, thin gardens. The village is set in farmland and open fields and is near Junction 22 of the M1 motorway. Stanton St Quintin is a small village and civil parish in the county of Wiltshire in England. It is about north of Chippenham and south of Malmesbury. The parish church dates in part from the 12th century. The parish includes the hamlets of Clanville (in the southeast) and Lower Stanton St Quintin (on the A429 road, to the northeast).
