Spence, Australian Capital Territory
Spence () is a residential suburb in the Belconnen district of Canberra, located within the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. The suburb is named after William Spence (1846–1926), one of the founders of the Australian Workers' Union and later a member of the first Australian House of Representatives. It was gazetted on 2 November 1972. Streets are named after trade unionists. Location and features Spence is located adjacent to the suburbs of Fraser, Melba and Evatt. Nearby is a CSIRO property. The suburb is to the south of Owen Dixon Drive and Kuringa Drive and also bounded by Alpen Street and Copland Drive. The local primary school, Spence Primary School, was established in 1977. It later merged with Melba Primary School to become Mount Rogers Community School—Spence Campus. The school closed at the end of 1998 due to a lack of enrolment. Spence Airport
Spence Airport is a city-owned public-use airport located four nautical miles (7 km) southeast of the central business district of Moultrie, Colquitt County, Georgia, United States. The airport serves the general aviation community, with no scheduled commercial airline service. History The City of Moultrie gained its first official municipal airport, Clark Field, in the 1930s. In 1940, local leaders, aware of the Federal government's airport building program, formed a committee to represent the community. The committee then contacted the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) about the possibility of acquiring a modern CAA built airport at Moultrie. The CAA, receptive to the idea, informed the committee that once the local government provided the land the Federal government would fund the building of an airfield. Due to the impossibility of expanding Clark Field for a modern airport, Moultrie and Colquitt County then took an option on a tract of land northeast of the city. ... Spence's Hotel
Spence's Hotel was a hotel established in Kolkata in 1830. It was near the Government House. It no longer exists. Various sources describe Spence's Hotel as either the first hotel in Asia, or in India, or in Kolkata. Spences Reefs is a pair of reefs consisting of two islets, with a combined area of 0.65 ha, in Tasmania, Australia. They are close to the south-east corner of Little Green Island and part of the Great Dog Island Group, lying in eastern Bass Strait between Flinders and Cape Barren Islands in the Furneaux Group. Spence Shale
The Spence Shale is the middle member of the Langston Formation in southeastern Idaho and northeastern Utah. It is exposed in the Bear River Range, the Wasatch Range and the Wellsville Mountains. It is known for its abundant Cambrian trilobites and the preservation of Burgess Shale-type fossils. The type locality is Spence Gulch in southeastern Idaho, near the town of Liberty.
