Spaceland was an alternative rock/indie rock nightclub in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, that existed between 1995 and 2011. The club was formerly a popular disco to young locals called Dreams of LA. Spaceland's owner announced the end of the venue in late 2010, with the space continuing to operate under the new name The Satellite. History The first show ever held at Spaceland featured Beck, The Foo Fighters, Possum Dixon and Lutefisk. The list of acts who have played Spaceland is quite long, ranging from veteran performers from the 1960s and 1970s like Arthur Lee and The Dictators to current major acts such as Supergrass, Jet, The Shore and The White Stripes. Silversun Pickups is an American alternative rock band from Los Angeles that was formed in 2000. The band is composed of Brian Aubert, Nikki Monninger, Christopher Guanlao, and Joe Lester. The band released their debut EP, '' Pikul'', in July 2005, and their debut album, ''Carnavas'', on July 26, 2006. Their second album, '' Swoon'', was released on April 14, 2009. '' Neck of the Woods'', the band's third album, came out on May 8, 2012. They issued their fourth album, ''Better Nature'', on September 25, 2015. Darker My Love
Darker My Love was a psychedelic rock band based in Los Angeles, California. Guitarist/vocalist Tim Presley, a former member of the hardcore punk band The Nerve Agents, formed the band in 2004 with drummer and former Nerve Agents bandmate Andy Granelli, then also of The Distillers. They were joined shortly thereafter by bass guitarist Rob Barbato, who shared songwriting and vocals with Presley, and rhythm guitarist Jared "The Sandwich" Everett. Will Canzoneri joined the band on organ and clavinet in the latter half of 2006. The band released three LPs and one EP. Presley is also a visual artist responsible for much of the band's imagery. ''Spaceland Presents – The Drones (In Spaceland • Nov. 15th, 2006)'', or ''Live in Spaceland'', is the first live album by Australian alternative rockers, the Drones, which was released in February 2007 via the American label, Spaceland Recordings. Its ten tracks were recorded at Spaceland, an alternative rock/indie rock nightclub in the Silver Lake neighbourhood of Los Angeles, on 15 November 2006, as part of ''NME''s Wednesday night concert series. The band performed without a setlist. The Drones (Australian Band)
The Drones were an Australian rock band, formed in Perth by mainstay lead vocalist and guitarist Gareth Liddiard in 1997. Fiona Kitschin, his domestic partner, joined on bass guitar and vocals in 2002. Other long-term members include Rui Pereira on bass guitar and then lead guitar; Mike Noga on drums, vocals, harmonica and percussion; and Dan Luscombe on lead guitar, vocals and keyboards. Their second album, '' Wait Long by the River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By'' (April 2005), won the inaugural Australian Music Prize. José Esteban Muñoz (August 9, 1967 – December 3, 2013) was a Cuban American academic in the fields of performance studies, visual culture, queer theory, cultural studies, and critical theory. His first book, ''Disidentifications: Queers of Color and the Performance of Politics'' (1999) examines the performance, activism, and survival of queer people of color through the optics of performance studies. New York Dolls
New York Dolls were an American rock band formed in New York City in 1971. Along with the Velvet Underground and the Stooges, they were one of the first bands of the early punk rock scenes. Although the band never achieved much commercial success and their original line-up fell apart quickly, the band's first two albums—'' New York Dolls'' (1973) and '' Too Much Too Soon'' (1974)—became among the most popular cult records in rock.
