The Southwest Texas League was a minor league baseball league that played in the 1910 and 1911 seasons. The Southwest Texas League played as a six–team Class D level league and consisted of teams based exclusively in Texas. History The Southwest Texas League began play as a six–team Class D level minor league in the 1910 season, with all six franchises based in Texas. The league president was B.S. Dickinson. Charter members were the Bay City Rice Eaters from Bay City, Texas, Beeville Orange Growers from Beeville, Texas, Brownsville Brownies from Brownsville, Texas, Corpus Christi Pelicans from Corpus Christi, Texas, Laredo Bermudas from Laredo, Texas and Victoria Rosebuds from Victoria, Texas. Buddy Napier
Skelton Le Roy "Buddy" Napier (18 December 1889 – 29 March 1968), was a Major League baseball pitcher from 1912 to 1921. He was born in Byromville, Georgia. Major league career Napier played his first major league game with the St. Louis Browns, on August 14, 1912, versus the Boston Red Sox, which the Browns lost 0-8. Napier signed on with the Chicago Cubs in 1918, pitching in only 1 game for the whole season. In 1920 he signed on with the Cincinnati Reds, and played for 2 more seasons before retiring. His final game was on July 16, 1921 in a doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies. George Harper (outfielder)
George Washington Harper (June 24, 1892 – August 18, 1978) was an American professional baseball player. From 1916 to 1929, he played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball for the Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, and Boston Braves. Harper played 1073 major league games and had a career .303 batting average with 91 home runs and 530 RBI. After his major league career ended, Harper returned to the minor leagues, where he played and managed for several more seasons. Early life Harper was born in Arlington, Kentucky, and he attended Fordyce High School in Fordyce, Arkansas. Billy Disch
William John Disch (October 15, 1872 – February 3, 1953) was an American baseball player and coach. He served as the head baseball coach at the University of Texas at Austin from 1911 to 1939 and as an advisory coach for 12 seasons afterwards. Career Often called the Connie Mack of college baseball, Disch earned a 513–180–12 overall record at Texas, including a collegiate record of 465-115-9, and garnered 20 Southwest Conference titles with a conference record of 284-70-4. At the time he coached, there were no NCAA postseason playoffs for national honors. Along with Bibb Falk, Disch is one of the two namesakes of UFCU Disch–Falk Field.
