For graduate-level theological institutions, the Master of Divinity (MDiv, ''magister divinitatis'' in Latin) is the first professional degree of the pastoral profession in North America. It is the most common academic degree in seminaries and divinity schools (e.g. in 2014 nearly 44 percent of all US students in schools accredited by the Association of Theological Schools were enrolled in an MDiv program). In many Christian denominations and in some other religions, the degree is the standard prerequisite for ordination or licensing to professional ministry. Mark Harris (North Carolina Politician)
Mark Harris (born April 24, 1966) is an American pastor and politician from North Carolina. He ran as a Republican to represent in the United States House of Representatives in the 2016 and 2018 elections. In 2016, he was defeated in a Republican primary by incumbent Robert Pittenger. Harris ran for Congress again in 2018, and this time he defeated Pittenger in the Republican primary. In the general election against Democratic opponent Dan McCready, initial tallies showed Harris winning the election; however, an election panel refused to certify these results after investigating reports of ballot fraud involving McCrae Dowless, a Republican political operative employed by the Harris campaign. Dowless was later criminally charged in connection with the alleged fraud, but Harris was not. William Franklin Graham IV (born January 30, 1975) is an American Christian evangelist. He is the executive director of the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove and associate evangelist of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Graham is the third generation of Grahams to preach under the banner of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA). He is a grandson of Billy Graham and the oldest son of Franklin Graham. Addie Elizabeth Davis
Addie Elizabeth Davis (29 June 1917 – 3 December 2005) was an American Southern Baptist religious leader. In 1964, she became the first woman to be ordained as a Southern Baptist pastor. Early life and education Davis was born to a Baptist family in Covington, Virginia on 29 June 1917. In 1942, Davis graduated from Meredith College with a major in psychology and a minor in speech. She became an education director at First Baptist Church in Elkin, North Carolina and later dean of women at Alderson-Broaddus College. Davis's early career was interrupted in 1944, when her father's death forced her to return to Covington and help her mother with the family furniture store. While in Covington, she briefly served as the interim pastor of Lone Star Baptist Church. Title IX is the most commonly used name for the federal civil rights law in the United States that was enacted as part (Title IX) of the Education Amendments of 1972. It prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or any other education program that receives funding from the federal government. This is Public Law No. 92‑318, 86 Stat. 235 (June 23, 1972), codified at 20 U.S.C. §§ 1681–1688. Senator Birch Bayh wrote the 37 words of Title IX. Bayh first introduced an amendment to the Higher Education Act to ban discrimination on the basis of sex on August 6, 1971 and again on February 28, 1972, when it passed the Senate. The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical significance or "great artistic value". Lea Laboratory
Lea Laboratory is a historic laboratory building located on the original campus of Wake Forest University at Wake Forest, Wake County, North Carolina. It was designed by noted Baltimore architect John Appleton Wilson (1851–1927) and built in 1887–1888. It consists of a two-story pedimented central brick block, three bays wide and seven deep flanked by one-story pedimented brick wings. The building has a blend of Colonial Revival and Victorian design elements. It is the oldest remaining building on the original campus of Wake Forest University, now Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and was one of the first chemical laboratories constructed on a Southern college campus. L. Paige Patterson (born October 19, 1942) served as the fifth president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C., from 1992 to 2003, as president of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) from 1998 to 2000, and as the eighth president of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, from 2003 until his firing in 2018.
