Ulverstone is a town on the northern coast of Tasmania, Australia on the mouth of the River Leven, on Bass Strait. It is on the Bass Highway, west of Devonport and east of Penguin. As of June 2021 Ulverstone had an urban population of 11,613, being the largest town in Tasmania. Gunns Plains is a small town located 20 km south of Ulverstone on the north-west coast of Tasmania, Australia. The valley has a population of approximately 171. The Leven River winds slowly through its pastures that support a variety of grazing stock. Agricultural endeavours are also very successful, benefiting from rich red volcanic soil. The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016.
