Softness
In materials science, hardness (antonym: softness) is a measure of the resistance to localized plastic deformation induced by either mechanical indentation or abrasion. In general, different materials differ in their hardness; for example hard metals such as titanium and beryllium are harder than soft metals such as sodium and metallic tin, or wood and common plastics. Macroscopic hardness is generally characterized by strong intermolecular bonds, but the behavior of solid materials under force is complex; therefore, hardness can be measured in different ways, such as scratch hardness, indentation hardness, and rebound hardness. Hardness is dependent on ductility, elastic stiffness, plasticity, strain, strength, toughness, viscoelasticity, and viscosity. Common examples of hard matter are ceramics, concrete, certain metals, and superhard materials, which can be contrasted with soft matter. Measuring hardness There are three main types of hardness measurements: ''scr ...

Soft (band)
Soft is an American indie rock band from New York City. History Soft formed in Brooklyn in 2003, but the group did not begin performing live until more than a year afterwards; for this reason, they were not well known on the New York music scene despite receiving critical acclaim elsewhere. Prior to forming Soft, lead singer John Reineck had previously played in a band called The Siren Six! at the University of Minnesota, and spent a year in Osaka working for a noise music record label after college. The name "Soft" was given to the group by Mickey Madden from Maroon 5, who suggested it after the group opened for one of their shows.Band of the Day:Soft

Softs (album)
''Softs'' is the ninth studio album by the jazz rock band Soft Machine, released in 1976. It is the final album to feature founding keyboardist Mike Ratledge. Overview John Etheridge replaced Allan Holdsworth on guitar shortly after the release of the previous album, '' Bundles'', and Alan Wakeman, cousin of keyboardist Rick Wakeman, took over saxophone duties from Karl Jenkins. Karl would play keyboards exclusively from this point onward. This change was necessitated by the departure of the group's last founding member, Mike Ratledge, who left in March 1976 before the sessions were completed, and can be heard on two tracks, but is not credited as a member of the group. Wakeman and bassist Roy Babbington left the group not long after the album was released, Wakeman having been a member for less than six months. Track listing All compositions by Karl Jenkins except where indicated. Side one #"Aubade" – 1:49 #"The Tale of Taliesin" – 7:15 #"Ban-Ban Caliban" – 9:19 #" ...

Aha Shake Heartbreak
''Aha Shake Heartbreak'' is the second studio album by American rock band Kings of Leon. It was first released in Europe on November 1, 2004, then in the United States on February 22, 2005, with alternate cover artwork. It is the only album by Kings of Leon to have a Parental Advisory label, because of profanity in "Taper Jean Girl", "Rememo", "Soft", and " Four Kicks". The U.S. album cover is reminiscent of Queen's '' A Night at the Opera''. " The Bucket", "Four Kicks" and " King of the Rodeo" were released as singles in the UK. Recording Like its predecessor, ''Aha Shake Heartbreak'' was recorded with producer Ethan Johns at his Three Crows Studio in Los Angeles using The Beatles' old Abbey Road mixing desk. Title and artwork The title of the album comes from the third track, "Taper Jean Girl". There were two different covers for the album: the original UK/Ireland version of the album featured a white orchid on a black background, whereas the later US version featured a dif ...

Soft/Rock
"Soft/Rock" is the debut single released by Lemon Jelly on 21 June 2001. The 7" single was released in two formats; the first was limited to 1,000 copies and released on blue vinyl, each coming in its own hand-stitched denim sleeve with a flavoured condom, the second was also limited to 1,000 copies but released on black vinyl in a black sleeve with a sticker. The first twelve or so (exact numbers unknown) of the blue vinyl edition were different in design from the others, featuring enhanced embroidery and a business card from the award-winning embroidery artist, Laura Lees. These extremely rare singles were very time-consuming to fabricate, so the design was simplified for the remainder of the format. Therefore, the first twelve are highly sought after and occasionally change hands on eBay for several hundred pounds. The A-side, "Soft", features an uncleared sample from Chicago's " If You Leave Me Now" with a vocal track taken from an archive episode of the religious "Pause for ...

Coercivity
Coercivity, also called the magnetic coercivity, coercive field or coercive force, is a measure of the ability of a ferromagnetic material to withstand an external magnetic field without becoming demagnetized. Coercivity is usually measured in oersted or ampere/meter units and is denoted . An analogous property in electrical engineering and materials science, electric coercivity, is the ability of a ferroelectric material to withstand an external electric field without becoming depolarized. Ferromagnetic materials with high coercivity are called magnetically ''hard'', and are used to make permanent magnets. Materials with low coercivity are said to be magnetically ''soft''. The latter are used in transformer and inductor cores, recording heads, microwave devices, and magnetic shielding. Definitions Coercivity in a ferromagnetic material is the intensity of the applied magnetic field (''H'' field) required to demagnetize that material, after the magnetization of ...

Soft Skills
Soft skills, also known as power skills, common skills or core skills, are skills applicable to all professions. These include critical thinking, problem solving, public speaking, professional writing, teamwork, digital literacy, leadership, professional attitude, work ethic, career management and intercultural fluency. This is in contrast to hard skills, which are specific to individual professions. The word "skill" highlights the practical function. The term alone has a broad meaning, and describes a particular ability to complete tasks ranging from easier ones like learning how to kick a ball to harder ones like learning to be creative. In this specific instance, the word "skill" has to be interpreted as the ability to master hardly controlled actions. History The term "soft skills" was created by the U.S. Army in the late 1960s. It refers to any skill that does not employ the use of machinery. The military realized that many important activities were included within thi ...

Soft Commodities
Soft commodities, or softs, are commodities such as coffee, cocoa, sugar, corn, wheat, soybean, fruit and livestock.Patrick Maul, ''Investing in Commodities'', diplom.de, 2011, p8 table c. The term generally refers to commodities that are grown, rather than mined; the latter (such as oil, copper and gold) are known as hard commodities. Soft commodities play a major part in the futures market. They are used by farmers wishing to lock-in the future prices of their crops, by commercial purchasers of the products, and by speculative investors seeking a profit. Sometimes the term ''soft'' is restricted to commodities which are identified as primarily tropical, such as coffee, cocoa, sugar, cotton, and orange juice. Soft commodities have been known to adopt a backwardation trend until the late 1990s when futures were actively traded. Speculation and investment requirements later shaped the common contango trend.
