Socialist Alternative (Netherlands)
Socialist Alternative ( nl, Socialistisch Alternatief) is a Trotskyist political party in the Netherlands. It is affiliated to International Socialist Alternative. The party was involved in the Occupy movement in the Netherlands. History Socialist Alternative was founded as Inter in 1977. The name was shortly after changed to Forward (''Voorwaarts'') and from the early 1980s to 2010 it was called Offensive (''Offensief''). The party has gone by its current name since September 2010, "to clearly put forward the need for a socialist alternative, in a period when the crisis of capitalism is ever more central". Since 2022, members of ISA Netherlands have been working inside new socialist formations such as Socialisten 010 in Rotterdam and Democratisch Socialisten Amsterdam, who are split offs from the SP. Socialism is a left-wing economic philosophy and movement encompassing a range of economic systems characterized by the dominance of social ownership of the means of production as opposed to private ownership. As a term, it describes the economic, political and social theories and movements associated with the implementation of such systems. Trotskyism
Trotskyism is the political ideology and branch of Marxism developed by Ukrainian-Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky and some other members of the Left Opposition and Fourth International. Trotsky self-identified as an orthodox Marxist, a revolutionary Marxist, and Bolshevik– Leninist, a follower of Marx, Engels, and 3L: Vladimir Lenin, Karl Liebknecht, and Rosa Luxemburg. He supported founding a vanguard party of the proletariat, proletarian internationalism, and a dictatorship of the proletariat (as opposed to the " dictatorship of the bourgeoisie", which Marxists argue defines capitalism) based on working-class self-emancipation and mass democracy. Far-left
Far-left politics, also known as the radical left or the extreme left, are politics further to the left on the left–right political spectrum than the standard political left. International Socialist Alternative
International Socialist Alternative is an international association of Trotskyist political parties. The group was founded in 1974 as the Committee for a Workers' International, by supporters of Militant from 12 countries. In August 2019, a faction left and formed a separate organisation called the "refounded CWI". After initially calling themselves the "CWI Majority", the remaining group relaunched under the name International Socialist Alternative in February 2020. The ISA has groups in 30 countries. The European Anti-Capitalist Left (EACL) is an informal network for left-wing and anti-capitalist parties in Europe. The EACL took part in the Europe against Austerity Conference in 2011 and 2012. Ideology Parties participating in the EACL are united in opposition to neo-liberalism and capitalism. Occupy Movement
The Occupy movement was an international populist socio-political movement that expressed opposition to social and economic inequality and to the perceived lack of "real democracy" around the world. It aimed primarily to advance social and economic justice and different forms of democracy. The movement has had many different scopes, since local groups often had different focuses, but its prime concerns included how large corporations (and the global financial system) control the world in a way that disproportionately benefits a minority, undermines democracy and causes instability. The Socialist Party ( nl, Socialistische Partij, ; abbreviated as SP, ) is a democratic socialist political party in the Netherlands. Founded in 1971 as the Communist Party of the Netherlands/Marxist–Leninist (KPN/ML, nl, link=no, Communistische Partij van Nederland/Marxistisch–Leninistisch), the party has since moderated itself from Marxism–Leninism and Maoism towards democratic socialism and social democracy.
