Sint-Martens-Latem () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders, in Belgium. The municipality comprises the towns of Deurle and Sint-Martens-Latem proper. In 2021, Sint-Martens-Latem had a total population of 8,285. The total area is 14.34 km². While "Latem" used to be known as an artists' colony before World War II, nowadays Sint-Martens-Latem is one of the wealthiest residential municipalities in Belgium. Luc-Peter Crombé
Luc-Peter Crombé (14 January 1920 – 17 May 2005) was a Belgian, Flemish painter. Luc-Peter Crombé was painter of landscapes, portraits, figures and religious subjects. He was part of the so-called 4th School of Latem of Flemish art and was known for his use of the tempera technique, his religious art but also for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore. Early life Luc-Peter Crombé was born in Opwijk, a small Flemish city northwest of Brussels. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and thSint-Lucas Academiein Ghent, as well as at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Antwerp). He was a student of Jos Verdegem and Constant Permeke. Crombé studied art history in the École du Louvre in Paris and also spent time in the mid 1940s at the influential Académie de la Grande Chaumière where he learned how to draw the female body. De Pinte
De Pinte () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. Before its existence as an independent municipality in 1868, De Pinte was a part of Nazareth. The municipality comprises the towns of De Pinte proper and Zevergem. In 2021, De Pinte had a total population of 10,990. The total area is 17.78 km². History The name of the municipality is issued from an inn, which was called "Het Pijntken", which was situated in the actual Pintestraat 69, and which was firstly used as the name of the municipality when it became independent of Nazareth on 2. Constant Permeke
Constant Permeke (; 31 July 1886 – 4 January 1952) was a Belgian painter and sculptor who is considered the leading figure of Flemish expressionism. Biography Permeke was born in Antwerp but when he was six years old the family moved to Ostend. Here his father, a landscape painter, founded in 1893 the Municipal Museum of Arts of which he became the curator. Permeke studied at the Bruges Academy from 1903 to 1906 and then at the Academy in Ghent from 1906 to 1908. Here he met Frits Van den Berghe and the brothers Gustave De Smet and Léon De Smet. He was drafted into the Belgian army and served in a university company that was quartered in Sint-Martens-Latem. After his military service ended in March 1908, Permeke returned to Ostend where he roomed together with another artist, Gustave De Smet. The Arrondissement of Ghent (; ) is the largest of the six administrative arrondissements in the Province of East Flanders, Belgium. It is both an administrative and a judicial arrondissement. Deinze () is a city and a municipality in the Belgian province of East Flanders. Gustave Van de Woestijne (; 2 August 1881 – 21 April 1947) was a Belgian expressionist painter. He belonged to the so-called "First Group of Latem", a group of artists who worked in the rural village of Sint-Martens-Latem on the banks of the Lys, near Ghent.
