Shotts Bon Accord F.C.
Shotts Bon Accord Football Club are a Scottish football club based in the town of Shotts, North Lanarkshire. History Shotts Bon Accord were formed in 1950 and currently compete in the . In 1995 Shotts were suspended from the Central Region of the SJFA for one season, after launching court action against the organisation. The club were re-admitted to its Second Division (the third tier) in the 1996–97 season. Remarkably they won each of the league's three divisions in consecutive seasons upon their readmission. Shotts have won the Scottish Junior Cup on two occasions, defeating Pumpherston Juniors 2–0 in 1958, and Auchinleck Talbot 2–1 in 2012. The team are managed since May 2018 by John McKeown. A local story has Shotts being named after the legendary giant highwayman Bertram de Shotts, though toponymists give the Anglo-Saxon ("steep slopes") as the real source of the name. The SJFA West Region Championship (known as the McBookie.com West Region Championship for sponsorship reasons) was a Scottish semi-professional football competition run by the West Region of the Scottish Junior Football Association and was the second tier of league competition for its member clubs. Formerly known as the West of Scotland Super League First Division, the league began in 2002 when top sides from the former Ayrshire and Central Regions agreed to form two combined Super League divisions above the regional competitions. Originally comprising twelve clubs, it was expanded to fourteen after two years as promotion/relegation places were increased. The Lanarkshire Junior Football League was a football league competition operated in Lanarkshire under the Scottish Junior Football Association which operated from 1891, being the oldest-running regional competition of its kind until a merger in 1968. The league was formed in 1891, at which point six of the ten finalists in the 5-year history of the Scottish Junior Cup had been from Lanarkshire (not counting those in the city of Glasgow under its boundaries of the time) indicating a strong presence at Junior level, with teams forming in many towns and villages involved in the thriving coal mining and steelworking industries. John McKeown (born 21 April 1981) is a former professional footballer who has played for several clubs in the Scottish Football League. Career Released by Ipswich Town as a teenager, McKeown made his league debut for Ayr United in a First Division game against Falkirk in May 2000. He later played for Dumbarton, Cowdenbeath Cowdenbeath (; sco, Coudenbeith) is a town and burgh in west Fife, Scotland. It is north-east of Dunfermline and north of the capital, Edinburgh.
