Shelley Smith Mydans
Shelley Smith Mydans (born Shelley Smith; May 20, 1915 – March 7, 2002) was an American novelist, journalist and prisoner of war. Life Mydans was born in California, where she grew up thinking of being a dancer, although her father was a university professor of journalism. As a child, she was one of the first participants in Lewis Terman's landmark Genetic Studies of Genius longitudinal study. She moved to New York to work for the Literary Digest, and became a journalist for ''Life'' magazine, where she met Carl Mydans in 1938. They married the following year and they were the first husband-and-wife team to be employed by the magazine. World War II They were sent initially to the United Kingdom to cover the war but they left for China when France was defeated. They eventually traveled over 45,000 miles visiting Scandinavia, Portugal, Italy, Chongqing in China and the British colony of Hong Kong. Palo Alto (; Spanish for "tall stick") is a charter city in the northwestern corner of Santa Clara County, California, United States, in the San Francisco Bay Area, named after a coastal redwood tree known as El Palo Alto. Larchmont is a village located within the Town of Mamaroneck in Westchester County, New York, approximately northeast of Midtown Manhattan. The population of the village was 5,864 at the 2010 census. In February 2019, Bloomberg ranked Larchmont as the 15th wealthiest place in the United States and the third wealthiest in New York. History Colonial period Originally inhabited by the Siwanoy (an Algonquian tribe), Larchmont was explored by the Dutch in 1614.
