Shelley Ryan
Shelley Ryan (August 6, 1956 – January 16, 2014) was an American gardener and cook best known as the host of the television show ''The Wisconsin Gardener'' which aired on Wisconsin Public Television and other PBS Stations. "Gardening isn't about plants, compost or dirt," she said. "It's really about people." Background Ryan was born in 1956 in Carbondale, Illinois, to Neil and Jane Ford. She moved to Middleton, Wisconsin as a young girl, graduated from Middleton High School, and then attended and graduated from UW-Madison. Ryan worked at Wisconsin Public Radio for a number of years before finding her true love in plants in the gardening world. She became a Master Gardener through UW Extension and worked at a number of different nurseries in the area before her idea of a television show for Public TV that would cover the wants, needs and questions of the state of Wisconsin. Carbondale, Illinois
Carbondale is a city in Jackson and Williamson Counties, Illinois, United States, within the Southern Illinois region informally known as "Little Egypt". The city developed from 1853 because of the stimulation of railroad construction into the area. Today the major roadways of Illinois Route 13 and U.S. Route 51 intersect in the city. The city is southeast of St. Louis, on the northern edge of the Shawnee National Forest. Carbondale is the home of the main campus of Southern Illinois University (SIU). As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 25,083, making it the most populous city in Southern Illinois outside the St. Louis Metro-East region. The ''Green Bay Press-Gazette'' is a newspaper whose primary coverage is of northeastern Wisconsin, including Green Bay. It was founded as the ''Green Bay Gazette'' in 1866 as a weekly paper, becoming a daily newspaper in 1871. The ''Green Bay Gazette'' merged with its major competitor, the ''Green Bay Free Press'' in 1915, assuming its current title. The newspaper was purchased by Gannett in March 1980.
