Sharksploitation is an exploitation film subgenre. The genre surged to popularity with ''Jaws'' and its sequels, but fell in popularity soon after. The film '' Deep Blue Sea'' brought it back to public prominence. The ''Sharknado'' series soared mockbuster sharksploitation to new heights of (sometimes tongue in cheek) fame. Exploitation Film
An exploitation film is a film that tries to succeed financially by exploiting current trends, niche genres, or lurid content. Exploitation films are generally low-quality "B movies", though some set trends, attract critical attention, become historically important, and even gain a cult following. History Exploitation films may feature suggestive or explicit sex, sensational violence, drug use, nudity, gore, destruction, rebellion, mayhem, and the bizarre. Such films were first seen in their modern form in the early 1920s, but they were popularized in the 60s and 70s with the general relaxing of censorship and cinematic taboos in the U.S. and Europe. An early example, the 1933 film Ecstasy, included nude scenes featuring the Austrian actress Hedy Lamarr. The film proved popular at the box office but caused concern for the American cinema trade association, the MPPDA. Cruel Jaws
''Cruel Jaws'', also known as ''The Beast'', is a 1995 direct-to-video Italian horror thriller film shot in Florida including the Theater of the Sea. The film stars Richard Dew and David Luther and was directed by Bruno Mattei (under the name of William Snyder). It was released on VHS and DVD in relative obscurity, mostly outside of the United States. While marketed in many areas as ''Jaws 5: Cruel Jaws'', it actually doesn't have any connections to the ''Jaws'' franchise. Plot When a crashed military ship named the ''Cleveland'' crashes, two divers named Paco and Jose search it and are killed by a large tiger shark. The shark also kills their captain Ramone. ''Spring Break Shark Attack'' is a 2005 joint South African/American made-for-TV thriller film. It was the brainchild of executive producer J.J. Jamieson, who wrote the initial story and sold it to CBS. The teleplay was written by James LaRosa and directed by Paul Shapiro. The film stars Shannon Lucio, Riley Smith, and Justin Baldoni, with Kathy Baker and Bryan Brown. After television release in the United States, the film had a limited non-US theatrical release, before going to DVD. ''Raging Sharks'' is a 2005 American direct-to-video science fiction action horror film directed by Danny Lerner.
