Severn Sound
Heart Gloucestershire (formerly Severn Sound) was a local radio station owned and operated by Global Radio as part of the Heart network. It broadcast to Gloucestershire from studios in Gloucester. The transmitter was at Churchdown Hill, just west of the M5; the same transmitter as Radio Gloucestershire. History Severn Sound started transmissions on 23 October 1980, from its first studio at the "Old Talbot Pub" in Southgate Street, Gloucester. The pub had been bought by local businessmen including Clive Lindley (Chairman of the Roadchef motorway service stations and Chairman of Severn Sound).The station's first employee was Chief Engineer Quentin Howard, who converted the pub into the radio station. Gloucester
Gloucester ( ) is a cathedral city and the county town of Gloucestershire in the South West of England. Gloucester lies on the River Severn, between the Cotswolds to the east and the Forest of Dean to the west, east of Monmouth and east of the border with Wales. Alan Price-Roberts or Alan Roberts (born 19 July 1946) is an English radio presenter, producer and actor. Broadcasting career Originally from Marlow, Buckinghamshire, Roberts was the station programme director with The Voice of Peace during a journey through the Suez Canal in January 1977. Founded by Jewish businessman Abie Nathan, the "Peace Ship" broadcast highly successfully to millions of Israeli and Arab listeners from the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Tel Aviv. It was staffed by a multi-national group of mainly Christian DJs and crew members, and gave several young broadcasters their first taste of radio. He first started broadcasting on British radio in 1977 at BBC Radio Oxford, one of a generation of British broadcasters that included Timmy Mallett, David Freeman, Martin Stanford, Garry Richardson, Guy Michelmore and Peter Grant. Supergold
Supergold (Europe) was an oldies radio sustaining service originally operated by the Telstar Satellite Music Network (TSMN) and later by Chiltern Radio Network in the United Kingdom. Originally devised by entrepreneur and DJ Graham Kentsley, it was one of Europe's first satellite delivered radio stations, receiving a Satellite Television Technology International (STTI) award for satellite communication innovation. History The Supergold oldies radio format was originally a creation of Mike Harvey the US Disk Jockey in the mid 80's. Chiltern Radio Network (also known as Chiltern Radio Group) was the parent group of several independent local radio stations in the 1980s and 1990s. These were divided across two networks: ''The Hot FM'' and ''SuperGold''. History Chiltern Radio launched 15 October 1981 from studios located on Chiltern Road in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. On 1 June 1982, Chiltern expanded into Bedford with studios on Goldington Road. Hereford
Hereford () is a cathedral city, civil parish and the county town of Herefordshire, England. Albert Allick Bowlly (7 January 1898 – 17 April 1941) was a Mozambican-born South African– British vocalist and jazz guitarist, who was popular during the 1930s in Britain. He recorded more than 1,000 songs. His most popular songs include "Midnight, the Stars and You", " Goodnight, Sweetheart", " Close Your Eyes", " The Very Thought of You", "Guilty", " Heartaches" and "Love Is the Sweetest Thing". Kenith Trodd (born 1936, in Southampton) is a British television producer best known for his professional association with television playwright Dennis Potter. Early life The son of a crane driver, Trodd was raised in the Christian fundamentalist Plymouth Brethren. A graduate of Oxford University, he worked as a university teacher in West Africa. Career Trodd began his career in television as an assistant to Roger Smith, script editor of ''The Wednesday Play'' in 1964. A problem with the script of '' Vote, Vote, Vote for Nigel Barton'' first brought Trodd into contact with Dennis Potter, the play's author. A desire to adapt a short story for an episode of BBC2's ''Thirty-Minute Theatre'', led to a phone call from its writer, Simon Gray, beginning Trodd's association with him and Gray's work in drama.
