Sevan Football Club ( hy, Սևան Ֆորտբոլային Ակումբ), formerly Junior Sevan Football Club, is a football club based in Sevan, Armenia. It is currently the only football club that represents the Gegharkunik Province of Armenia. History Sevan Football Club was founded in 2018 as ''Junior Sevan Football Club'', in the town of Sevan. In its first year of foundation, Junior Sevan applied and took part in the Armenian First League. Even though it won the 2018–19 league season, the club was not granted a license for promotion to the Premier League for not having met the required standards. On 25th of June, 2019, the club announced that the name was changed to ''Sevan FC''. After playing three seasons in the lower Armenian league, they were finally able to get promoted to the premier league by winning the 2020-21 Armenian First League. Sevan, Armenia
Sevan ( hy, Սեւան) is a town and urban municipal community, as well as one of the most popular resorts in Armenia, located in the Gegharkunik Province on the northwestern shores of Lake Sevan. The town is built at a height of more than above sea level, northeast of the capital Yerevan, and north of the provincial centre Gavar. Sevan is surrounded by the Sevan National Park, a natural protected area extending from the northeastern parts of the town to the southwest, while Lake Sevan forms the natural border of the city to the east. As of the 2011 census, the population of the town was 19,229, and as per the 2016 official estimate, the population of Sevan is 19,200. Etymology Sevan was founded as Yelenovka ( hy, Ելենովկա, russian: Еленовка) in 1842 to become a Russian-populated village. It was named after Yelena Pavlovna the daughter of Tsar Paul I of Russia. Armen Andranik Shahgeldyan ( hy, Արմեն Անդրանիկի Շահգելդյան; born 28 August 1973) is an Armenian football manager and former player who is currently the manager of Armenian club Sevan FC. He played as a striker for the Armenia national team, and finished his career for Armenian Premier League club FC Mika. Armen debuted for Armenia in 1992, when Armenia played its first international match after gaining independence in a friendly. He has been a member of the national team on and off throughout his career, and has scored six goals in 53 caps. Syarhyey Ryhoravich Hyerasimets ( be, Сяргей Рыгоравіч Герасімец; russian: link=no, Серге́й Григорьевич Герасимец; 13 October 1965 – 26 September 2021) was a Belarusian professional football coach and player. 2021–22 Sevan FC Season
The 2020–21 season is Sevan FC, Sevan's first season in the Armenian Premier League. Season events On 1 December, the Football Federation of Armenia Disciplinary Committee voted in favor to remove Sevan FC, Sevan from the Armenian Premier League after they failed to turn up for two games in a row, against FC Alashkert, Alashkert and BKMA Yerevan.
