Sea Bright, New Jersey
Sea Bright is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was reflecting a decline of 406 (−22.3%) from the 1,818 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 125 (+7.4%) from the 1,693 counted in the 1990 Census. Sea Bright was formed as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 21, 1889, from portions of Ocean Township, based on the results of a referendum held the previous day. Borough (New Jersey)
A borough (also spelled boro), in the context of local government in the U.S. state of New Jersey, refers to one of five ''types'' and one of eleven ''forms'' of municipal government (in addition to those established under a Special Charter). Though it is now the most common form of local government in New Jersey, by 1875 only 17 boroughs had been created, all by special acts of the legislature. These original boroughs were ''subdivisions'' of townships, established by state charter; Elizabeth was the first, established by royal charter in 1740, within the now defunct Elizabeth Township. About half of them had been dissolved, or changed into other forms of government—often cities. The ''Asbury Park Press'' is a daily newspaper in Monmouth and Ocean counties of New Jersey and has the third largest circulation in the state. It has been owned by Gannett since 1997. Martha Bayard Stevens
Martha Bayard Dod Stevens (May 15, 1831 – April 1, 1899) was a noted New Jersey philanthropist influential in advancing complementary educational pursuits. Early life She was born to Albert Baldwin Dod (1805–1845), a professor of mathematics at Princeton University and Caroline Smith Bayard (1807–1891). Her maternal grandfather was Samuel Bayard (1766-1840) and her great-grandfather was Continental Congressman John Bubenheim Bayard (1738-1808), sharing lineage with Peter Stuyvesant. Martha was a descendant of the Bayard family who emigrated from Holland to the United States before the Revolutionary War. The Bayards owned the greater part of the land now known as Hoboken and Weehawken, but lost after fleeing the country upon the surrender of the British Army. Ocean Township is a township located in east central Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is located on the Jersey Shore. The township is a bedroom suburb of New York City. Ocean Township consists of three main unincorporated communities: Wanamassa, Oakhurst, and Wayside. The United States census of 2010 was the twenty-third United States national census. National Census Day, the reference day used for the census, was April 1, 2010. The census was taken via mail-in citizen self-reporting, with enumerators serving to spot-check randomly selected neighborhoods and communities. As part of a drive to increase the count's accuracy, 635,000 temporary enumerators were hired. The population of the United States was counted as 308,745,538, a 9.7% increase from the 2000 census.
