''Sco-Mule'' is a live album by the American rock band Gov't Mule, recorded at two 1999 shows in Atlanta, Georgia. It features the band's original members: guitarist Warren Haynes, bass guitarist Allen Woody, and drummer Matt Abts, along with jazz guitarist John Scofield and keyboardist Dan Matrazzo. These Atlanta performances have been widely traded, discussed and revered by Mule fans for 15 years. Allen Woody
Douglas Allen Woody (October 3, 1955 – August 26, 2000) was an American bass guitarist best known for his eight-year tenure in the Allman Brothers Band and as a co-founder of Gov't Mule. Biography After having studied at Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music, Woody joined the Allman Brothers Band along with guitarist Warren Haynes upon the group's reunion in 1989. Woody and Haynes formed side project Gov't Mule in 1994 with former Dickey Betts drummer Matt Abts. Haynes and Woody decided to leave the Allman Brothers Band in 1997 to put a full-time effort into Gov't Mule. Prior to that, Woody played in the 1970s jazz fusion rock band Montage, and following that with former Kiss drummer Peter Criss in the Criss Penridge Alliance in the 1980s. John Scofield
John Scofield (born December 26, 1951), sometimes referred to as "Sco", is an American guitarist and composer whose music over a long career has blended jazz, jazz fusion, funk, blues, soul and rock. Gov't Mule (pronounced "Government Mule") is an American Southern rock jam band, formed in 1994 as a side project of the Allman Brothers Band by guitarist Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody. ''Dark Side of the Mule'' is a live album by Gov't Mule composed of covers of Pink Floyd songs. The album was recorded in 2008 during a three-hour gig at Boston's Orpheum Theatre on Halloween night. The title is a pun on ''The Dark Side of the Moon'', the 1973 Pink Floyd album. One of the background singers, Durga McBroom, also toured with Pink Floyd and appears on their two most recent albums. ''Past Present'' is an album by jazz guitarist John Scofield that was recorded in March and released in September of 2015. Scofield is joined by saxophonist Joe Lovano, bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Bill Stewart. This album reunited Scofield with Lovano and Stewart, who had been members of his quartet on '' Meant to Be'' (1991) and '' What We Do'' (1993). Dan Matrazzo, also known as "Dr. Dan Matrazzo" or simply "Dr. Dan," is an American keyboardist and pianist. He was a member and composer for Grammy winning blues artist Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. Matrazzo started playing the piano at the age of three in 1962 and performed classical recitals while growing up in Tokyo. Jimmy Herring (born January 22, 1962) is the lead guitarist for the band Widespread Panic. He is a founding member of Aquarium Rescue Unit and Jazz Is Dead and has played with The Allman Brothers Band, Project Z, Derek Trucks Band, Phil Lesh and Friends, and The Dead.
