Scheibenwischer
(German for ''windshield wipers'') was the name of a long-running German Kabarett show. It was founded in 1980 by Dieter Hildebrandt and produced by BR / RBB to be broadcast on Das Erste. The show ended in 2008 after 28 years on the air. Conception had its focus on solely Kabarett and used a more solemn way of humor, as opposed to lighthearted stand-up comedy. As such, the topics discussed by the artists on the show have sometimes had a potential to cause uproar and scandals with contemporary politicians, especially conservative ones like Franz Josef Strauß. Alongside Hildebrandt, who hosted the show until 2003, a number of prominent artists were guests on the show, such as Gerhard Polt, Wolfgang Stumph, Andreas Rebers, Hagen Rether, Philipp Weber, the musical group Biermösl Blosn or singer Konstantin Wecker. Richard Rogler
Richard Rogler (born 19 September 1949, in Selb) is a German Kabarett artist and professor of Kabarett at the University of the Arts in Berlin. Early life Rogler studied French and sport at the University of Würzburg. From 1974 to 1978 he was a member of the theater group "Ömnes & Oimel", first at Würzburg, then from 1977 in Cologne. From 1978 to 1982 he was a member of the duo "Der Wahre Anton" with Heinrich Pachl and since 1982 he had an engagement at the playhouse in Cologne. Professional career Since 1986, Rogler worked as a solo artist, starting with his first program "Freiheit aushalten!". Further solo programs were "Finish" (1992), "Wahnsinn" (1995), "Freiheit West" (1998), "Anfang offen" (2002), "Ewiges Leben" (2005) and "Stimmung" (2009). Georg Schramm
Georg Schramm (born 11 March 1949) is a German Kabarett artist. He was a host of the Kabarett shows '' Scheibenwischer'' and '' Neues aus der Anstalt''. Biography Schramm was born in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe. His father was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) which influenced his later performances as a Kabarett artist. At his gymnasium ''(high school)'' he claims to have been the only working class child in his class. He then enlisted for the Bundeswehr as a short-term career soldier which he retired from as a reserve officer. Afterwards he studied psychology in Bochum and worked as a psychologist in a rehab clinic from 1976 to 1988. Since 1992 he has been working full-time as a Kabarett artist. Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR; "Bavarian Broadcasting") is a public-service radio and television broadcaster, based in Munich, capital city of the Free State of Bavaria in Germany. ''Notizen aus der Provinz'' (German for "news from the province") was a political cabaret program hosted by Dieter Hildebrandt and broadcast by ZDF from 1973 to 1979. After its cancellation, it would be the last such program on the channel until ''Neues aus der Anstalt'' premiered in January 2007. About the show History ''Notizen aus der Provinz'' was the second attempt to establish a political cabaret show in German television after the Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) had tried out a similar concept, ''Hallo Nachbarn!'' Bruno Jonas
Bruno Jonas (born in Passau, Germany, on 3 December 1952) is a German Kabarett artist and actor. Education Many people predicted he would become a priest, but he prefers to pray from the Kabarett stage. Between 1975 and 1982, he studied German, political science, and philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. After several years he began to study theatre. Career In 1975, Jonas played with Sigi Zimmerschied in the Kabarett Scharfrichterhaus. Kabarett
Kabarett (; from French ''cabaret'' = tavern) is satirical revue, a form of cabaret which developed in France by Rodolphe Salis in 1881 as the ''cabaret artistique''. It was named Le Chat Noir and was centered on political events and satire. It later inspired creation of Kabarett venues in Germany from 1901, with the creation of Berlin's Überbrettl venue and in Austria with the creation of the Jung-Wiener Theater zum lieben Augustin housed in the Theater an der Wien. By the Weimar era in the mid-1920s it was characterized by political satire and gallows humor. It shared the characteristic atmosphere of intimacy with the French cabaret from which it was imported, but the gallows humor was a distinct German aspect. Andreas Rebers
Andreas Rebers (born 7 January 1958) is a Kabarett artist, author and musician from Munich. His shows often incorporate performances on the accordion or the piano. Early life Rebers was born in Westerbrak in Lower Saxony. By the age of 15, Rebers' band Los Promillos which he founded with his brothers is a success in his local area of Weserbergland and brings him a certain degree of financial independence. After school, he successfully studied at the University of Hannover to become a teacher. It was also at the university where he made his first contacts to independent theaters and the art of Kabarett. After his first studies, he also earned a degree in pedagogy. He taught himself playing the piano and learned playing the accordion from Thomas Aßmus from 1984 to 1988, an instrument which he calls "Strapsmaus" and uses in his shows since then. Dieter Hildebrandt
Dieter Hildebrandt (23 May 1927 – 20 November 2013) was a German Kabarett artist. Biography Hildebrandt was born in Bunzlau, Lower Silesia, Weimar Germany (now Boleslawiec, Poland) where he attended school. In World War II he became a Flakhelfer of the Luftwaffe but after four months was conscripted to the German Wehrmacht, in the same role. In June 2007, a year after the Günter Grass Waffen-SS revelations, documents were released which showed that some prominent German intellectuals like Siegfried Lenz, Martin Walser and Dieter Hildebrandt had been members of the Nazi Party. Hagen Rether
Hagen Rether (born 8 October 1969 in Bucharest) is a Romanian-born German political cabaret artist and musician. The most remarkable features in his performance are usually the presence and use of a grand piano. He was a frequent contributor to the German Kabarett TV show Scheibenwischer. Among the topics Rether relates to are not only federal, state and international politics, but also religion, media, consumerism and globalization. Biography Hagen Rether spent his childhood in Bucharest and Sibiu, Romania as the son of German, Transylvanian Saxon parents of Siebenbürgen. In 1973, his family relocated to West Germany settling in Freiburg im Breisgau. Mathias Richling (born 24 March 1953 in Waiblingen) is a German actor, author, comedian and Kabarett artist. Richling studied literature, music and theatre. From 1989 to 1996 he had a program called ''Jetzt schlägt's Richling'' on the German TV channel ARD. Since 1999 he produced the program ''Zwerch trifft Fell'' on the German TV channel Südwestrundfunk. Together with Bruno Jonas he was part of the popular German cabaret show Scheibenwischer.
