Scarborough—Guildwood
Scarborough—Guildwood is a federal electoral district in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2004. It was created in 2003 from parts of Scarborough East, Scarborough Southwest and Scarborough Centre. This riding lost territory to Scarborough—Rouge Park and Scarborough Southwest, and gained territory from Scarborough Centre during the 2012 electoral redistribution. Geography It is centred on the Guildwood neighbourhood. It consists of the part of the City of Toronto bounded by a line drawn from Lake Ontario north along Markham Road, west along Eglinton Avenue, north along Bellamy Road South, west along Lawrence Avenue, north along McCowan Road, east along Highway 401, south along Morningside Avenue back to Lake Ontario. John McKay (politician)
John Norman McKay (born March 21, 1948) is a Canadian lawyer and politician. He is the Liberal Member of Parliament for the riding of Scarborough—Guildwood. McKay was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance from 2003 to 2006 during the government of Paul Martin, then served as an opposition MP and critic until November 2015 during the government of Stephen Harper. As of April, 2019, he serves as Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security; Chair of the Canadian Section of the Canada-United States Permanent Joint Board on Defence; Chair of the Canada-United Kingdom Inter-Parliamentary Association, Vice-chair of the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group, and Counsellor Canadian NATO Parliamentary Association. Kevin Clarke (politician)
Kevin Mark Clarke (born March 21, 1964) is a Canadian former educator, activist and perennial candidate who is the founder and former leader of The People's Political Party. He is considered one of the most recognizable homeless persons in the city of Toronto, campaigning on "the people's rights." Clarke advocates for comprehensive reform in the criminal justice system, to create a system that prevents recidivism among first-time offenders. He has proposed a program that he claims would reduce the recidivism which allegedly violent prison environments create: 'The Inmate Monitored Education System' otherwise known as T.I.M.E., which would aim to help eliminate the claimed harmful influence of prison life on first-time offenders. Scarborough Village
Scarborough Village is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, located in the Scarborough district. It was one of the earliest settlements in the former township of Scarborough with the distinction of being the site of the township's first post office. Today, the neighbourhood is composed of private and public housing, apartment complexes, schools, a few condominiums, and strip mall plazas. Guildwood
Guildwood, also known as Guildwood Village, is a residential neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the eastern area of the city, in the district of Scarborough. It is bounded by the Scarborough Bluffs, south of Kingston Road, from Grey Abbey Trail in the east. History Its oldest building is the 18th century Osterhout Log Cabin situated along the bluffs. The log cabin is one of Toronto's oldest buildings still standing, although its exact date of construction is unknown. In 1914, the Guild Inn was opened. Initially a private residence, it later became an art colony, and a hotel. The federal electoral redistribution of 2012 was a redistribution of electoral districts ("ridings") in Canada following the results of the 2011 Canadian census. As a result of amendments to the Constitution Act, 1867, the number of seats in the House of Commons of Canada increased from 308 to 338. The previous electoral redistribution was in 2003. Scarborough—Rouge Park is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2015. Scarborough—Rouge Park was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. It came into effect upon the call of the 42nd Canadian federal election that took place on October 19, 2015. Scarborough East
Scarborough East was a Canadian electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 2003. It initially consisted the eastern part of the Borough of Scarborough, although its boundaries were adjusted several times. It was created in 1966 from part of York—Scarborough. The federal electoral district was abolished in 2003 when it was redistributed between Pickering—Scarborough East and Scarborough—Guildwood ridings. West Hill, Toronto
West Hill is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the eastern end of the city, in the suburb of Scarborough. It is roughly bounded by Scarborough Golf Club Road and a branch of Highland Creek on the west, the CNR railway tracks and Lake Ontario on the south, and Highland Creek on the north-east. The name comes from its elevated position on the west side of Highland Creek, a deep glacial ravine. Pauline Browes (born May 7, 1938) is a former Canadian politician. She was a Member of Parliament between 1984 and 1993. An educator by training, Browes was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada as the Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament for the riding of Scarborough Centre in the 1984 federal election. The PCs, led by Brian Mulroney, won power with the largest majority government in Canadian history.
