The Saskatchewan Environmental Society (SES) is an environmental charity based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Founded in 1970 as a local volunteer organization, the Society's work has since expanded to encompass the entire province on a wide range of environmental issues. History In August 1970 the SES was formed as the Saskatoon Environmental Society by a group of 100 local environmentalists during the first wave of the modern environmental movement. The group sprang up initially out of concerns stemming from years of industrial development with little environmental oversight. However, early organizers opted to orient the group on building awareness and making constructive recommendations rather than on narrowly protesting pollution, while basing their outlook in a long-term and holistic concept of sustainability. Environmentalism or environmental rights is a broad philosophy, ideology, and social movement regarding concerns for environmental protection and improvement of the health of the environment, particularly as the measure for this health seeks to incorporate the impact of changes to the environment on humans, animals, plants and non-living matter.
