Gyula, Hungary
Gyula (; german: Jula; ro, Jula or ) is a town in Békés County, Hungary. The town is best known for its Medieval castle and a thermal bath. Ferenc Erkel, the composer of the Hungarian national anthem, and Albrecht Dürer the Elder, the father of Albrecht Dürer, were also born in Gyula. Geography Gyula is located in the Great Hungarian Plain on the River Fehér-Körös, southeast from Budapest and from the border with Romania. The Békéscsaba-Gyula-Kötegyán railway line and Highway 44 also cross the town. Loránd Kesztyűs
Loránd Kesztyűs ( Sarkad, Hungary, 11 April 1915 − Debrecen, Hungary, 17 August 1979) was a Hungarian physician, immunologist, pathophysiologist, a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Career He studied at the University of Debrecen until 1938, then worked at the Physiological and General Pathological Institute of the university. In 1948 he was appointed director of the Pathophysiological Institute of Debrecen, a post which he held until his death. During his directorship the institute became the research center of immunology in Hungary. Antibodies to muscle proteins were first prepared by Kesztyűs and his team; they also studied the reaction of these antibodies with the muscle protein antigens. During the early period of his career he studied - together with István Went - antibodies and flavins, on the ground of their researches they could successfully produce immunizer pharmaceutical drugs used as treatment for allergies. Sándor Képíró
Sándor Képíró (18 February 19143 September 2011) was a Hungarian gendarmerie captain during World War II accused of war crimes committed by Hungarian forces. Wartime career A police officer in the Hungarian gendarmerie, by 1942 Képíró was serving in the region of Bácska (Bačka) (today divided between Hungary and Serbia), which had been transferred to Hungary as a result of the Axis invasion and partition of Yugoslavia. In January 1942 raids were conducted in several parts in the region, including Novi Sad, and an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 civilians, mostly Serbs and Jews, were rounded up and killed. Képíró took part in this rounding up and later admitted playing that part in the affair. In 1944 he was put on trial, with fourteen other Hungarian army and police officers, accused of taking part in the raids. Snagov
Snagov (population: 7,272) is a commune, located north of Bucharest, in Ilfov County, Muntenia, Romania. According to the 2011 census, 92% of the population is ethnic Romanian. The commune is composed of five villages: Ciofliceni, Ghermănești, Snagov, Tâncăbești, and Vlădiceasca. Snagov is a tourist and spa resort, but the necessary infrastructure has regressed after 1989. A sister city or a twin town relationship is a form of legal or social agreement between two geographically and politically distinct localities for the purpose of promoting cultural and commercial ties. Békés County
Békés (, , ro, Județul Bichiș) is an administrative division (county or ''megye'') in south-eastern Hungary, on the border with Romania. It shares borders with the Hungarian counties Csongrád, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, and Hajdú-Bihar. The capital of Békés county is Békéscsaba.
