Samson L. Faison
Samson Lane Faison (November 29, 1860 – October 17, 1940) was a brigadier general in the United States Army who commanded the 30th Infantry Division (United States), 30th Infantry Division at various times during World War I. He received the Distinguished Service Medal (U.S. Army), Distinguished Service Medal for his significant role in the breaking of the German's Hindenburg Line. Personal life Faison was born in Faison, North Carolina (Duplin County) to Elias James Faison and Elizabeth Maria Lane. He had four brothers and two sisters. A North Carolina state historical marker stands today in the town bearing his name, birthplace, and accomplishments. Faison married Eleanor Sowers in 1906 and had two children, S. Lane Faison Jr. and Eleanor. Faison is a town in Duplin County, North Carolina, Duplin County in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The population was 961 at the 2010 census. History Faison was originally called "Faison's Depot", and under the latter name was founded around 1833. The town was named for Henry Faison, the original owner of the town site. A post office has been in operation at Faison since 1838. The Faison Cemetery, Faison Historic District, Buckner Hill House, and John Wesley Mallard House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Clarence Ransom Edwards
Major General Clarence Ransom Edwards (January 1, 1859 – February 14, 1931) was a senior United States Army officer, known as the first Chief of the Bureau of Insular Affairs, and commander of the 26th Division in World War I. Early career Edwards was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of local merchant William Edwards, and Lucia Ransom. He graduated from the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, New York in 1883, and, due to his deficiency in math and science, was ranked last in his class (52nd of 52). Isaac William Littell (5 December 1857 – 1 May 1924) was a United States Army brigadier general. He was awarded the Army Distinguished Service Medal for meritorious and distinguished service during World War I. Specifically, Littell was honored for building the camps and cantonments of the Army raised in the summer of 1917 as chief of the Cantonment Division of the Quartermaster General's Office. John Wilson Ruckman
John Wilson Ruckman (October 10, 1858 – June 6, 1921) was a major general in the United States Army. Early life Ruckman was born at Deers, Illinois, a flag-station just southeast of the University of Illinois. Biographies, however, usually list his place of birth as Sidney, Illinois (Champaign County). His parents, Thomas and Mary O'Brien Ruckman, were farmers. His uncles, John W. and Wilson Ruckman served the Union Army with distinction in the American Civil War (Company A, Illinois 35th Infantry). Charles Gould Morton (January 15, 1861 – July 18, 1933) was an American major general during World War I. Early life Charles Gould Morton was born on January 15, 1861, to Allen and Mary Morton in Cumberland, Maine. Lawrence Tyson
Lawrence Davis Tyson (July 4, 1861August 24, 1929) was an American general, politician and textile manufacturer, operating primarily out of Knoxville, Tennessee, during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As s btigadier general, he commanded the 59th Brigade of the 30th Division during World War I, and served as a Democratic United States Senator from Tennessee from 1925 until his death. Tyson helped organize the Knoxville Cotton Mills in the early 20th century and served as president of the second Appalachian Exposition in 1911. A graduate of West Point, Tyson first saw military action during the Apache Wars in the 1880s.
