Saltangará
Saltangará ( da, Saltangerå) is a village in the Faroe Islands, on the island of Eysturoy. Saltangará was founded in 1846 and is situated on the eastern side of Eysturoys Skalafjordur-inlet between Rituvík and Søldarfjørður. The name is derived from three words: ''angar'' comes from the Old Norse ''angr'' which means a fjord or bay; ''á'' means a stream; and ''salt'' has the same meaning in Faroese, Icelandic and English. The village is located in Runavík Municipality along with Æðuvík, Glyvur, Runavík, Rituvík, Skipanes, Søldarfjørdur, Elduvík, Funningsfjørdur, Glyvrar, Oyndarfjørdur, Skáli, Skálafjørdur, Lambi and Lambareidi. Petur Knudsen
Petur Knudsen (born 21 April 1998) is a Faroese professional footballer who plays as a forward for the Danish Superliga club Lyngby Boldklub and the Faroe Islands national team. Club career On 30 June 2021, Knudsen signed a two-year deal with newly relegated Danish 1st Division club Lyngby Boldklub. He won promotion to the Danish Superliga in his first season with the club, making 26 total appearances in which he scored eight goals. International career Knudsen made his international debut for Faroe Islands on 28 March 2021 in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Austria, which finished as a 3–1 away loss. Personal life Knudsen is the son of former Faroese international footballer Jens Martin Knudsen. Jens Martin Knudsen (footballer)
Jens Martin Knudsen (born 11 June 1967) is a former Faroese footballer who played as a goalkeeper and a businessman. He was perhaps best known for wearing a hat in his matches as a result of an injury he suffered at age 14. He later become known as "the bobble hat goalkeeper". Club career Knudsen started his career as an amateur footballer for local team NSÍ Runavík. In 1992, he moved to GÍ Gøta to win a Faroese championship medal four times in a row between 1993 and 1996. After two seasons in Iceland with Leiftur he returned to the Faroe Islands and spent a short time on loan at Scottish team Ayr United before moving back to Leiftur for one more season. In 2001, he finally returned to his NSÍ again to become player/manager. He retired from playing football at the age of 40. Æðuvík (from ''Æða'' meaning "duck" and ''vík'' meaning "bay", da, Avevig) is a community located on the southernmost tip of Eysturoy island of the Faroe Islands. Founded in 1897, its postal code is FO 645. Its population is about 100, and it is located at N 62° 4' 11 W 6° 41' 24. Lamba (Faroe Islands)
Lamba (, da, Lamhauge), is a small village in the bottom of the inlet of Lambavík on the east coast of Eysturoy, Faroe Islands. There are similarly named places, Lamba in Shetland and Lambay in Ireland. Settlement The houses in Lamba are spread down through the valley following the road on its way from the bottom of the valley down to the small harbour. There is a huge rock in the harbour. Nobody wants to remove it because it is said to be inhabited by ‘huldufólk’, a race of elfs or faries that people used to believe in. They are said to be fierce if disturbed. Heri Joensen of Viking metal band Týr is from Lamba. Glyvrar
Glyvrar ( da, Glibre) is a village located on Eysturoy, in the Faroe Islands. It is one of several villages on the east side of the Skálafjørður fjord that have grown into a 10-kilometre-long conurbation. In Glyvrar there is a museum called ’Bygdasavnid Forni’. The church in Glyvrar was originally built in 1927, but it was heavily restored in 1981. From 1903 to 1928 there was a school for navigators in Glyvrar. Graduates from here would become masters of fishing-ships. The Bible translator Victor Danielsen worked as a teacher in Glyvrar in 1914. The salmon-farming company Bakkafrost is based in Glyvrar. Bakkafrost is the largest fish farming company in the Faroe Islands and one of the biggest private employers in the islands, if not the biggest. Bakkafrost is the eighth largest fish-farming company in the world. Elduvík
Elduvík ( da, Eldevig) is a small village in the Faroe Islands. Elduvík is located in the Funningsfjørður-inlet on Eysturoy's northeast side. The village which has a population of 12 is split into two parts by a small river Stórá. Visible from Elduvík is the nearby island of Kalsoy. The village lies by the shore at the end of a long, lush valley surrounded by stunning mountains. West of the river is the old part of the village, where the colourful small houses surround the school and the church. On the other side of the river is the dock, where boathouses form an amphitheatre-like semi circle around the pier. From here, the old village path passes through a hillside to the town of Oyndarfjørður, where Elduvík locals attended church before the village got its own church. The church in Elduvík was inaugurated in 1951, although the churchyard has been used since 1926 to avoid the hassle of carrying dead bodies along the old village path to Oyndarfjørður. Skipanes
Skipanes ( da, Skibenæs) is a village on the Faeroese island of Eysturoy in Runavík Municipality. Founded in 1841, the population as of August 2022 was 55 people. In amalgamation with undir Gøtueiði in Eysturkommuna, it forms a tiny conurbation; a small creek acts as a border between the two settlements. Notable residents of Skipanes include Terji Skibenæs, the guitarist of the Faeroese Viking Metal group Týr. Its postal code is FO-665.
