Salt River (Missouri)
The Salt River is a tributary of the Mississippi River in eastern Missouri in the United States. The river is approximately long and drains an area of in parts of twelve Missouri counties. It rises at the confluence of the North, Middle, and South Forks in Monroe County. Since Clarence Cannon Dam construction was completed in 1983, the first 15 miles of the Salt River after the confluence of the North, Middle, and South Fork have been contained in Mark Twain Lake. Below the dam, the river winds generally east for 63 miles through a rural valley surrounded by low bluffs. Below New London, it receives Spencer and Peno Creeks from the right. The Salt joins the Mississippi River at Ted Shanks Wildlife Conservation Area (River Mile 284) just one mile north of US Route 54 bridge in Louisiana in Pike County. Santa Fe, Missouri
Santa Fe is an unincorporated community in southeastern Monroe County, Missouri, United States. It is located approximately twenty-five miles north of Mexico, near the southern edge of Mark Twain Lake. Santa Fe was founded in 1836 and named for Santa Fe, New Mexico. The post office at Santa Fe has been in operation since 1854. The Mark Twain State Park Picnic Shelter at Buzzard's Roost was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The Clemens family (one of whom was Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. " Mark Twain") owned several tracts of land in the area. Paris is a city and county seat of Monroe County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,161 at the 2020 census. History Paris was platted in 1831, and named after Paris, Kentucky, the native home of one of the first settlers, Mrs. James C. Fox. James R. Abernathy was one of the first settlers of Paris in 1831. The town was laid out in 1831 by Abernathy, James C. Fox, Hightower F. Hackney, and E. W. McBride. In 1837, Paris contained seven stores and a number of families.
