Salsta Castle
Salsta Castle is a country house in Sweden, situated north of Vattholma, Uppsala Municipality, approximately 25 kilometers north of Uppsala. A fortified castle was already present on the site in the late 13th century, and the estate has belonged to some of the most influential noble families in Sweden, notably Oxenstierna, Bielke and Brahe. The present baroque palace was erected in the French Baroque style in the 1670s for Nils Bielke the Younger, 1st Count Bielke af Åkerö and Imperial Count of Torgelow, incorporating elements from an earlier Renaissance castle, and designed and constructed by Mathias Spieler after an earlier design by Nicodemus Tessin the Elder. Uppsala Municipality
Uppsala Municipality (''Uppsala kommun'') is a municipality in Uppsala County in east central Sweden. Uppsala has a population of 211,411 (2016-06-30). Its seat is located in the university city of Uppsala. Uppsala Municipality was created through amalgamations taking place during the late sixties and the early seventies. There are about thirty original local government units combined in the present municipality. A split took place in 2003, when Knivsta Municipality was formed. Oxenstierna
Oxenstierna ( , ) is a Swedish noble family, originally from Småland in southern Sweden which can be traced up to the middle of the 14th century. The Oxenstierna family held vast estates in Södermanland and Uppland during the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. Imperial Count (german: Reichsgraf) was a title in the Holy Roman Empire. In the medieval era, it was used exclusively to designate the holder of an imperial county, that is, a fief held directly ( immediately) from the emperor, rather than from a prince who was a vassal of the emperor or of another sovereign, such as a duke or prince-elector. Mathias Spieler
Mathias Spihler (c. 1640 – February 1691) was a Swedish architect and master builder of German descent. Biography Spihler was born at Södermalm in Stockholm, Sweden. He aided Jean de la Vallée in the design and construction of Katarina Kyrka (Catherine Church) as technical superintendent at the church in 1671. Spihler also built the Van der Nootska Palace between 1671 and 1672.
