Saint-Ours is a city located in the Pierre-De Saurel Regional County Municipality of Québec (Canada), in the administrative region of Montérégie. The population as of the Canada 2011 Census was 1,721. Founded in 1650 and originally constituent of the Saint-Ours Parish Municipality, which merged alongside L'Immaculée-Conception-de-Saint-Ours municipality in 1991, Saint-Ours is one of the earliest settlements in Montérégie. Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu is a municipality in the southwestern part of Quebec, Canada on the Richelieu River in the Regional County Municipality of La Vallée-du-Richelieu. History In 1694, King Louis XIV granted the Seigneurie of Saint-Denis to the aristocrat French Army officer, Louis-François De Gannes, sieur de Falaise of Buxeuil, Vienne, France. He named his seigniory after his wife, Barbe Denys. A great stone Roman Catholic Saint-Denis Church was completed in 1796. On November 23, 1837, Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu was the site of the murder of British courier, Lieutenant George Weir by Patriotes. Richelieu River
The Richelieu River () is a river of Quebec, Canada, and a major right-bank tributary of the St. Lawrence River. It rises at Lake Champlain, from which it flows northward through Quebec and empties into the St. Lawrence. It was formerly known by the French as the Iroquois River and the Chambly River, and was named for Cardinal Richelieu, the powerful minister under Louis XIII. This river was a long a key route of water transport for trading, first by indigenous peoples, and then for cross-border trade between Canada and the United States.
