Saint-Gaudens, Haute-Garonne
Saint-Gaudens (; ) is a commune and a sub-prefecture of the Haute-Garonne department in southwestern France. Saint-Gaudens lies at an altitude of on a ledge overlooking the valley of the Garonne. It faces the Pyrenees and is a natural crossroads for routes between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean and between Toulouse and the Val d'Aran in Catalonia. Saint-Gaudens station has rail connections to Toulouse, Bayonne, Pau and Tarbes. History Saint-Gaudens has been inhabited since ancient times (traces of the Iron Age and of Roman occupation) and was originally called Mas-Saint-Pierre, before taking the name of the young shepherd, Gaudens, martyred by the Visigoths at the end of the 5th century for refusing to renounce his faith. Maelle Millet
Maelle Millet (born 22 August 2004) is a retired French rhythmic gymnast. She is a three-time French national champion (2021-2023). Personal life Millet took up rhythmic gymnastics at age six after a demonstration near her home. She moved to train at the national youth training hub (Pole Espoir) in Montpellier, France at age 11, and she trained for 26 hours per week. Her favourite apparatuses are ball and ribbon, and her ultimate ambition was to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Career Junior At the first Junior World Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Moscow in 2019, she placed 14th with ball, the only apparatus she competed with. Yves Aristide Marius Giraud-Cabantous (; 8 October 1904 – 30 March 1973) was a racing driver from France. He drove in Formula One from to , participating in 13 World Championship Grands Prix, plus numerous non-Championship Formula One and Formula Two races. Career Giraud-Cabantous was born in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. He drove a Talbot-Lago-Talbot in 10 Championship races in 1950 and 1951, and his final three events were in an HWM-Alta. He amassed a total of 5 Championship points, 3 at the 1950 British Grand Prix (also his highest finish, a 4th place) and 2 at the 1951 Belgian Grand Prix. He died in Paris, aged 68, and is buried at Ivry Cemetery, Ivry-sur-Seine. Avranches (; ) is a commune in the Manche department, and the region of Normandy, northwestern France. It is a subprefecture of the department. The inhabitants are called ''Avranchinais''. The 2014 Tour de France was the 101st edition of the race, one of cycling's Grand Tours. The race included 21 stages, starting in Leeds, Yorkshire, United Kingdom, on 5 July and finishing on the Champs-Élysées in Paris on 27 July. The race also visited Belgium for part of a stage.
