Søren Brorsen
Søren Brorsen (1875–1961) was a Danish politician who was a member of Venstre. He was the minister of defence for three terms in the periods 1922–1924, 1926–1929 and 1940–1943. Biography Brorsen was born in Nørre Farup on 1 July 1875. He was owner of a farm and a member of the Parliament for Venstre between 1907 and 1929 and again between 1932 and 1945. Brorsen served as minister of defense for three terms. He was first appointed to the post in 1922 and was in office until 1924. His second term as minister of justice was for three years from 1926 to 1929. The Minister of Defence of Denmark ( da, Forsvarsminister, ) is the politically appointed head of the Danish Ministry of Defence. ''Den Store Danske Encyklopædi'' (''The Great Danish Encyclopedia'') is the most comprehensive contemporary Danish language encyclopedia. The 20 volumes of the encyclopedia were published successively between 1994 and 2001; a one-volume supplement was published in 2002 and two index volumes in 2003. The work comprises 115,000 articles, ranging in size from single-line cross references to the 130-page entry on Denmark. At the outset of World War II in September 1939, Denmark declared itself neutral. For most of the war, the country was a protectorate and then an occupied territory of Germany. The decision to occupy Denmark was taken in Berlin on 17 December 1939. On 9 April 1940, Germany occupied Denmark in Operation Weserübung. The Danish government and king functioned as relatively normal in a ''de facto'' protectorate over the country until 29 August 1943, when Germany placed Denmark under direct military occupation, which lasted until the Allied victory on 5 May 1945. Contrary to the situation in other countries under German occupation, most Danish institutions continued to function relatively normally until 1945.
