Sør-Rana Municipality
Sør-Rana is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1929 until its dissolution in 1964. The areais now part of Hemnes Municipality. (Hemnes Municipality was also named ''Sør-Rana'' from 1838 until 1844). Sør-Rana encompassed an area on both sides of the middle section of the Ranfjorden around where the Sørfjorden and Elsfjorden branch off the main fjord. Prior to its dissolution in 1964, the municipality was the 118th largest by area out of the 689 municipalities in Norway. Sør-Rana Municipality was the 519th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of about 1,608. The municipality's population density was and its population had decreased by 13.1% over the previous 10-year period. Korgen is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1918 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality included the central part of what is now Hemnes Municipality, centered around the river Røssåga. It was located in the traditional district of Helgeland. The administrative centre was the village of Korgen where Korgen Church is located. Prior to its dissolution in 1964, the municipality was the 161st largest by area out of the 689 municipalities in Norway. Oksskolten
( Norwegian; ) or is a mountain in Hemnes Municipality in Nordland County, Norway. At tall, it is the highest point in Nordland county, the highest in Northern Norway, and has Norway's eighth largest primary factor. The mountain lies just south of the lake Gresvatnet in the Okstindan mountain range east of the village of Korgen and north of the lake Røssvatnet. The first recorded climb was by Peder Stordal in 1883. In order to get to the summit, climbers must cross the glacier to the north. The large Okstindbreen glacier lies to the west of the mountain. Rana Niejta and Rana Niejte are variant forms of the Ume Sami name of a goddess in Sami religion, Sami mythology.
