Sydney Santall
Sydney Santall (10 June 1873 – 19 March 1957) was an English first-class cricketer who played with Warwickshire. His son Reg was later a prolific run maker for them while his other son John had a brief career at Worcestershire. Santall was a right-arm medium pace bowler and took 1207 wickets for Warwickshire during his 20-year career. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. A significant omission of the ICC ruling was any attempt to define first-class cricket retrospectively. Warwickshire County Cricket Club
Warwickshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class cricket, first-class county cricket, county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the Historic counties of England, historic county of Warwickshire. Its T20 team is called the Birmingham Bears. Founded in 1882, the club held minor counties of English and Welsh cricket, minor status until it was elevated to first-class in 1894 pending its entry into the County Championship in 1895. Since then, Warwickshire have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. Warwickshire's kit colours are black and gold and the shirt sponsor is Gullivers Sports Travel. Reg Santall
Frederick Reginald Santall (12 July 1903 – 3 November 1950) was an English cricketer. He was a right-hand batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler who played for Warwickshire. Born in Acocks Green, Birmingham, Santall was a regular on the Warwickshire teamsheet during the inter-war period. Between 1919 and 1939 he played 496 first-class matches for his home county, only Willie Quaife and Dennis Amiss have represented Warwickshire more often. Outside of county cricket he made four other first-class appearances, three came on Sir Theodore Brinckman's XI tour of Argentina in 1937–38 and one was for Sir Lindsay Parkinson's XI against the West Indies tourists of 1933, he scored 45 and 47 not out in a low-scoring match. Santall scored a total of 17,730 first-class runs at an average of 24.93, passing 1,000 runs in a season on seven occasions. His best seasonal total came in 1933 when he scored 1,727 runs at 46.67. John Santall
John Frank Eden Santall (3 December 1907 – 24 May 1986) was an English first-class cricketer who played eight matches for Worcestershire, all in the space of just over a month in 1930. Santall was never a conspicuous success with the county: in 13 innings he only thrice reached double figures (his best being the unbeaten 36 he hit against Lancashire), and with the ball he never added to the 2–29 he took in the first innings of his debut against Essex; the first of his two victims was Stan Nichols and the other Joe Hipkin. After such a failure, Santall walked away from cricket, instead turning his attentions to ice-skating, in which sport he proved good enough to turn professional; he also worked as a skating instructor.Obituary, ''The Cricketer'', May 1987. Eric Hollies
William Eric Hollies (5 June 1912 – 16 April 1981) was an English cricketer, who is mainly remembered for taking the wicket of Donald Bradman for a duck in Bradman's final Test match innings, in which he needed only four runs for a Test average of 100. Hollies played all his first-class cricket career for Warwickshire, taking 2,323 wickets at less than 21 apiece. Cricket writer, Colin Bateman, noted: "Hollies was one of cricket's most extraordinary characters, whose meagre thirteen Tests in no way reflected his contribution to the game. He was a fastish leg-break bowler who rarely had much use for the googly."
