Syd Malcolm
Syd Malcolm (1902–1987) was an Australian rugby union player, a state and national representative half-back who captained the Wallabies' on seventeen occasions between 1928 and 1933. Youth and representative debut Malcolm left Newcastle, New South Wales in his teens to seek work and found it at Ipswich, Queensland as a boilermaker. He played rugby league in 1925–26 with the St Paul's club in Ipswich, achieving representative honours for Queensland in 1925. His first representative rugby union appearances were on the 1927–28 New South Wales rugby union tour of the British Isles, France and Canada for which Malcolm was one of three half-backs selected along with Wally Meagher and Jack Duncan from Randwick. Meagher started as the preferred Test half and when Malcolm dislocated his shoulder in the match against Oxford University not yet half-way into the tour it looked as though he would have disappointing memories of the trip. Merewether, New South Wales
Merewether () is a former Municipality and today a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, located from Newcastle's central business district with a population of around 11,000. The suburb stretches from Merewether Beach in the east to Adamstown in the west. Establishment Merewether was originally part of the Burwood Estate, and takes its name from the owner, Edward Christopher Merewether. The Church of England parish church is St. Augustine, in Llewellyn Street, the land and cost of erection met by Mr. Edward Merewether. Alex Ross (rugby)
Alec Ross (4 November 1905 – 30 August 1996) was an Australian state and national representative rugby union player who captained the Wallabies in thirteen Test matches in 1933-34. Career Ross was schooled at Sydney Grammar and studied medicine at Sydney University while attending St Andrew's College. He made his first representative appearance in 1925 at the time when the Queensland Rugby Union administration was dormant rendering the New South Wales Waratahs the top Australian representative rugby union side of the period 1919 to 1929. A number of the Waratah fixtures of 1920s which were played against full international opposition and in which Ross appeared were decreed by the Australian Rugby Union in 1986 as official Test matches.
