Syd Heylen
Harold Sydney Charles Heylen (25 May 1923 – 4 December 1996), credited variously as Syd Heylen, Sid Heylen and Sydney Heylen, was an Australian character actor of radio, stage, television and film, comedian, and variety performer and soldier, he often performed in a traditional vaudeville style in the vein of Roy Rene. Early life Heylen was born in Renmark, South Australia in 1923, as the only son of a carpenter, he had 4 sisters He joined the army at 16 and served on the Kokoda Trail under the rank of Private in the 39th Infantry Battalion, later going on to join an 1st army entertainment troupe. In 1961, he married Patti Brittain (his second wife) and they had two children (both in the entertainment industry) - a daughter, Julie Heylen, and a son, Syd Heylen Junior, who is a well known entertainer in variety and cabaret. Valerie Muriel Jellay (born Valerie Jelly; 25 September 1927 – 6 May 2017) was an Australian vaudevillian, actress, soubrette, dancer, author and TV personality. At the time of her death, she was the widow of fellow Australian vaudevillian, actor and comedian Maurie Fields; together they were in general considered to be a duo act in the entertainment industry. She was the mother of comedian and actor Marty Fields. Her early career had been in vaudeville and on stage before becoming a staple on the small screen in 1957. ''Alvin Purple'' was an Australian television situation comedy series, made by the ABC in 1976. The series followed continued adventures of the title character, previously featured in the successful sex comedy feature film '' Alvin Purple'' (1973) and its sequel '' Alvin Purple Rides Again'' (1974). It debuted on 19 August 1976. Graeme Blundell reprised the role of Alvin in the series. Alvin cohabitated with a new character, flatmate Spike (Chris Haywood). ''Division 4'' is an Australian television police drama series broadcast by the Nine Network and created by Crawford Productions airing between 1969 and 1975 for 301 episodes. Synopsis The series was one of the first to follow up on the enormous success of the earlier Crawford Productions drama ''Homicide'' and dealt with the wide variety of cases investigated by police in the fictional Melbourne suburb of Yarra Central (modelled on St Kilda but with many features in common with Port Melbourne and South Melbourne). Lorrae Desmond (born Beryl Hunt; 2 October 1929 – 23 May 2021) was an Australian Gold Logie-award-winning singer, recording artist, radio and television presenter, character actor, and playwright, with a career that spanned over 55 years both locally and in the United Kingdom. James Davern
James Edmund Davern (21 February 1933 - 18 November 2023) was an Australian television director, writer, script editor and producer, and founder of production company JNP Productions. He is arguably best known for creating long-running Australian soap '' A Country Practice''. Professional career Davern was employed as a writer and script editor with Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) television branch in the 1960s. He worked as a producer and director in drama and music programmes and was involved in establishing a script production line.
