Sybrand Engelbrecht (soldier)
Sybrand Abraham Engelbrecht (4 April 19136 September 1994) was a List of South African military chiefs, South African military commander. He was born in Clanwilliam, and joined the South African Army in June 1936. He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant in January 1937. He attended an Ordnance Officers Course at the Royal Military College of Science from January 1939 to July 1939. He served in World War II in the Middle East. After the War he served as the Dean of the Military College. He was then Explosives, Deputy Quartermaster General, Officer Commanding North West Transvaal Command and Officer Commanding Northern Command (South Africa). He served as Army Chief of Staff from 1959 to 1963, when he took early retirement. He returned to active duty for a few years in the 1970s, as a staff officer with the South African Special Forces. Petrus Jacobs
Major-General Petrus Jacobs (1910-1967) was a South African military commander. Military career He joined the South African Army as a part-time Citizen Force soldier in 1931 in the Prince Alfred's Guard and later became a full-time Permanent Force member. He served in World War II with the 2nd South African Division and with Wits Rifles in Italy. Maj Gen Jacobs was ''Army Chief of Staff'' from 1963 to 1965. South African Military Academy
The South African Military Academy is based on similar principles to that of the military academy system of the United States ( United States Military Academy United States Naval Academy United States Air Force Academy). Northern Transvaal Command
Northern Transvaal Command was a command of the South African Army. It was active from 1959 to mid 2000 when it was disestablished. Formerly it was named Northern Command from 1946 to 1959. Bull Jacobs
A bull is an intact (i.e., not castrated) adult male of the species ''Bos taurus'' (cattle). More muscular and aggressive than the females of the same species (i.e. cows proper), bulls have long been an important symbol in many religions, including for sacrifices. The South African Army College is a training unit of the South African Army. History Origin of military training in South Africa South African military training can be traced back to 1786 when the ''Militere Kweekskool'' was established by the Dutch East India Company to develop local cadets, but collapsed due to lack of funds. Under the Union of South Africa’s Defence Act of 1912, allowance was made for a formal South African Military College. Two branches were initially set up namely the General Branch or military school and the Musketry Branch or musketry school. Both branches were initially housed in Bloemfontein in the Orange Free State (province), Free State. The military school received its first intake in that same year and by 1913 the musketry school began its first rifle instruction course.
