The Swiss League Cup was a football tournament which took place as a summer pre-season tournament in 1972 and 1973, and during the Swiss football season from 1974–75 to 1981–82. The tournament was a knockout competition contested by clubs from the top two levels of Swiss football, the Swiss Super League, Nationalliga A and Swiss Challenge League, Nationalliga B. FC Aarau
FC Aarau is a Swiss professional football club based in Aarau. Founded in 1902, the club competes in the Swiss Challenge League, the second tier of Swiss football after being relegated from the Swiss Super League. History FC Aarau was formed on 26 May 1902 by workers from a local brewery. The early days of the club were a success and they won the Swiss championship in 1911–12 and then again in 1913–14. The club spent 25 years, from 1907 to 1933, in the top league but were relegated to the lower league and were unable to return to the top flight for a number of decades. In the 1980–81 season the club were able to return to the top league in the Swiss football pyramid after a 3–1 victory over Vevey-Sports. They have stayed there ever since and in the 1992–93 season they won the Swiss National League A managed by Austrian Rolf Fringer. Wankdorf Stadium
Wankdorf Stadium (, ) was a football stadium in Bern, Switzerland, and the home of Swiss club BSC Young Boys. Built in 1925, it hosted the finals of the 1954 FIFA World Cup, the 1960–61 European Cup, and the 1988–89 European Cup Winners' Cup. The stadium was demolished in 2001, and replaced in 2005 by the Stadion Wankdorf on the same site. History The original Wankdorf stadium was opened in 1925 after a construction period of seven months. It had a capacity of 22,000, of which 1,200 covered seats and covered standing room for another 5,000 people. The first international match took place on 8 November 1925; 18,000 spectators witnessed the 2–0 victory of the Swiss national team against Austria. Gurzelen Stadion
Gurzelen Stadion was a multi-purpose stadium in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. It has mostly been used for football matches and was the home ground of FC Biel-Bienne. The capacity of the stadium was 5,500. Gurzelen Stadion was set to be demolished in mid 2016. Gurzelen Stadion is temporarily used for the project "Terrain Gurzelen" since January 2017 until it will be demolished the earliest in 2020. Stadion Schützenwiese
Stadion Schützenwiese is a football stadium in Winterthur, Switzerland. It has been the home ground of FC Winterthur since the club's inception in 1896. It has a capacity of 8,550, more specifically 1,100 covered seats, 800 uncovered seats and 6,650 standing places. The field received its first, wooden stands in 1922 on the western side, which were completely replaced in 1957/58 to contain changing rooms, a kiosk, and underground gyms. In 1968 the stadium received funding to build floodlights. To match the Swiss Football League's license requirements introduced in the 2012/13 season, the stadium was modernized in three stages. The first stage contained improvements to the lighting, security, and catering systems, completed by 2013. This was followed by a rebuild of the eastern standing terrace in 2015, and finally a renovation of the main stands.
