Surrey County Cricket Club
Surrey County Cricket Club (Surrey CCC) is a first-class club in county cricket, one of eighteen in the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Surrey, including areas that now form South London. Teams representing the county are recorded from 1709 onwards; the current club was founded in 1845 and has held first-class status continuously since then. Surrey have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England, including every edition of the County Championship (which began in 1890). The club's home ground is The Oval, in the Kennington area of Lambeth in South London. They have been based there continuously since 1845. Gareth Batty
Gareth Jon Batty (born 13 October 1977) is an English former cricketer who is best known as a spin bowling, spin-bowler. He has represented England cricket team, England in all formats and was the captain of Surrey County Cricket Club between 2015 and 2017. In October 2021, Batty retired from playing cricket and became a member of the coaching team at Surrey. He is the younger brother of former Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Yorkshire and Somerset County Cricket Club, Somerset off-spinner Jeremy Batty. Education Batty was educated at Bingley Grammar School, a Voluntary aided school, Voluntary Aided state school in Bingley, West Yorkshire. 2024 County Championship
The 2024 County Championship (referred to as the Vitality County Championship for sponsorship reasons) was the 124th County Championship cricket season in England and Wales. As in 2023, Division One had ten teams and Division Two had eight teams. The season began on 5 April and ended on 29 September 2024. Surrey won the title with one match remaining, repeating their success in 2022 and 2023. They were the first team to become champions in three successive years since Yorkshire in 1966–68, having last achieved this feat themselves in 1958. Yorkshire County Cricket Club
Yorkshire County Cricket Club is a professional Cricket club based in Yorkshire, England. The team competes in the County Championship, the top tier of English First-class cricket. Nicknamed "Vikings". Yorkshire also competes in T20 Blast, One-Day Cup (England), One-Day Cup. Yorkshire's first team is the most successful in English cricketing history with 33 County Championship titles, including one shared. The team's most recent Championship title was in 2015. Guildford () is a town in west Surrey, England, around south-west of central London. Sports Ground, Woodbridge Road, Guildford
The Sports Ground, Woodbridge Road is a cricket ground in Guildford, Surrey. The ground was given to the town in trust in 1911 by Sir Harry Waechter, Bart. Guildford Cricket Club play their home matches on the ground. Surrey County Cricket Club usually play at least one first team match there each season, as well as some second XI and Surrey Stars fixtures. Until comparatively recently, hockey was played on the ground in winter. The ground was also used for football until at least 1921. It was the home ground of the amateur team Guildford F.C. who existed until 1953 (not to be confused with the professional Guildford City team who played at Josephs Road) and was also used as the venue for some Surrey Senior Cup finals.
