Superstores
A big-box store, a hyperstore, a supercenter, a superstore, or a megastore is a physically large retail establishment, usually part of a chain of stores. The term sometimes also refers, by extension, to the company that operates the store. The term "big-box" references the typical appearance of buildings occupied by such stores. Commercially, big-box stores can be broken down into two categories: general merchandise (examples include Walmart and Target) and specialty stores (such as Home Depot, Barnes & Noble, IKEA or Best Buy), which specialize in goods within a specific range, such as hardware, books, furniture or consumer electronics, respectively. Best Buy Co., Inc. is an American multinational consumer electronics retailer headquartered in Richfield, Minnesota. Originally founded by Richard M. Schulze and James Wheeler in 1966 as an audio specialty store called Sound of Music, it was rebranded under its current name with an emphasis on consumer electronics in 1983. Category Killer
A category killer is a retailer, often a big-box store, that specialty store, specializes in and carries a large product assortment of a given category. Through their wide merchandise selections, low pricing, deep supply, large buying power, and market penetration, they have a comparative advantage over other, smaller retailers, and can greatly reduce the sales of rival retailers within that category, in the area and beyond it. In essence, they are a price- or discount-based specialist mass-retailer. Chain store, Chains such as OfficeMax, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, and Hobby Lobby have been considered category killers. Once typically found in power center (retail), power centers, increasingly they are found in or adjacent to (as an outbuilding of) repurposed traditional malls.
