Sunset is a suburb of Mount Isa in the City of Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia. In the , Sunset had a population of 2,188 people. Geography The Leichhard River flows north–south through the town of Mount Isa, dividing the suburbs of the town into "mineside" (west of the Leichhardt River) and "townside" (east of the Leichhardt River). Sunset is a "townside" suburb. Sunset is bounded on the east by Sunset Drive and to the south by an unnamed creek (a tributary of the Leichhardt River). The western part of the suburb is mostly flat (approximately 360 metres above sea level) and is used for residential purposes. To the east of the suburban development, the land rises to two local prominences (420 metres above sea level). City Of Mount Isa
The City of Mount Isa is a local government area in north west Queensland. The City covers the urban locality of Mount Isa, the administrative centre, and surrounding area, sharing a boundary with the Northern Territory to the west. Spinifex State College Junior Campus is a heritage-listed state high school at 6-12 Fifth Avenue, Parkside, Mount Isa, City of Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia. Spinifex State College is a public, co-educational, day and boarding school located in Mount Isa, Queensland. It first opened in 2003. History Prior to 2003 Mount Isa was serviced by two state secondary schools. Mount Isa State High School and Kalkadoon State High School had served the community well. Following community consultation it was determined that to continue to provide the best possible education to students in Mount Isa that it was timely to merge the two schools. At the same time it was decided to open a residential campus to provide opportunities to students from outlying communities who do not have a secondary school. The Leichhardt River is a river in north west Queensland, Australia. Course The source of the river is in the Selwyn Range under Rifle Creek Hill and fed by Rifle Creek approximately south of the mining town Mount Isa. It runs in a generally northerly direction almost parallel with the Diamantina Developmental Road until it reaches Mount Isa and crosses the Barkly Highway.
