Studio 440
The Studio 440 was a sampler, sequencer, and 32 sound drum machine manufactured by Dave Smith's Sequential Circuits (SCI) and released in 1986. The sampler's core is similar to that of the Prophet 2000 and Prophet 2002. There is a 3.5" floppy disk drive to store samples and data. Sampler (musical Instrument)
A sampler is an electronic musical instrument that records and plays back samples (portions of sound recordings). Samples may comprise elements such as rhythm, melody, speech, sound effects or longer portions of music. The mid-20th century saw the introduction of keyboard instruments that played sounds recorded on tape, such as the Mellotron. As technology improved, cheaper standalone samplers with more memory emerged, such as the E-mu Emulator, Akai S950 and Akai MPC. Samples may be loaded or recorded by the user or by a manufacturer. The samples can be played back by means of the sampler program itself, a MIDI keyboard, sequencer or another triggering device (e.g., electronic drums). Daniel M. Nakamura (born August 29, 1966), better known by his stage name Dan the Automator, is an American record producer. He is the founder of the publishing company Sharkman Music and the record label 75 Ark. Early life Daniel M. Nakamura was born in San Francisco, California, in 1966. His parents spent time in Internment of Japanese Americans, Japanese internment camps as children. His father worked for the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency and his mother taught at City College of San Francisco. As a child, he learned to play violin. Musical Instrument Digital Interface (; MIDI) is an American-Japanese technical standard that describes a communication protocol, Digital electronics, digital interface, and electrical connectors that connect a wide variety of electronic musical instruments, computers, and related audio devices for playing, editing, and recording music. A single MIDI cable can carry up to sixteen channels of MIDI data, each of which can be routed to a separate device. In mathematics, a sequence is an enumerated collection of objects in which repetitions are allowed and order matters. Like a set, it contains members (also called ''elements'', or ''terms''). The number of elements (possibly infinite) is called the ''length'' of the sequence. Three Times Dope was an American hip hop/rap group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania consisting of EST ( Robert Waller), Chuck Nice (Walter Griggs) and Woody Wood (Duerwood Beale). 3xD, as they were called for short, were a part of the Hilltop Hustlers Crew (which also included Steady B, Cool C, Da Youngsta's and others). Paul Edward Huston (born April 2, 1967), better known by his stage name Prince Paul, is an American record producer, disc jockey and recording artist from Amityville, New York. Paul began his career as a DJ for Stetsasonic. He has worked on albums by Boogie Down Productions, Gravediggaz, MC Lyte, Big Daddy Kane and 3rd Bass, among others. The Orb
The Orb are an English electronic music group founded in 1988 by Alex Paterson and Jimmy Cauty. Known for their psychedelic sound, the Orb developed a cult following among clubbers "coming down" from drug-induced highs. Roderick Julian Modell (commonly goes by Rod Modell) is an American electronic music producer, DJ and musician from Port Huron, Michigan, known professionally as Deepchord (pronunciation: iːpkɔːrd sometimes stylized as DeepChord). Modell was born on July 22, 1969, in Detroit, Michigan. He worked with Mike Schommer to produce music under the Deepchord moniker as well as co-founded an eponymous record label in Detroit during the mid-1990s. However, currently the project name of Deepchord represents only Modell, who is using a number of aliases besides. The musical style of Deepchord is similar to both the minimal Berlin sound of artists like Basic Channel and the techno tradition of Detroit. King Tech
Rod Sepand (born June 30, 1968), better known professionally as King Tech, is an American DJ, B-boy, VJ and audio engineer. He is one half of the duo Sway & King Tech. Career DJ King Tech began his career in the hip hop scene as a B-Boy in the Bay Area. He initially joined the musical crews "Master City Breakers" and "Flynamic Force," performing with them regularly. As the popularity of B-Boy crews started to decline, he met Sway Calloway, and the two formed a dynamic partnership. With King Tech handling the turntables and Sway on the microphone, they represented Flynamic Force on their debut single, "We Wanna Rock You," which sold 20,000 copies in the Bay Area. Simon Harris (musician)
Simon Harris is a British music producer, DJ, remixer and electronic musician from London predominantly known for his 1988 hit song "Bass (How Low Can You Go?)". He is also the founder of the hip hop label Music of Life and the producer of most of its catalogue of songs. Biography Harris started as a mobile DJ in the Chigwell, Essex area in 1977 and became known for his mixing. In 1979, he became a DJ at Radio Forest Hospital Radio and promoted disco events featuring Capital Radio DJs.
