Street Basketball
Streetball (or street basketball) is a variation of basketball, typically played on outdoor courts and featuring significantly less formal structure and enforcement of the game's rules. As such, its format is more conducive to allowing players to publicly showcase their own individual skills. Streetball may also refer to other urban sports played on asphalt. It is particularly popular and important in New York City and Los Angeles, though its popularity has spread across the United States due to the game's adaptability. Some places and cities in the United States have organized streetball programs, operated similarly to midnight basketball programs. Many cities also host their own weekend-long streetball tournaments, with Hoop-It-Up and the Houston Rockets' Blacktop Battle being two of the most popular. Double-dribble
In basketball, an illegal dribble (colloquially called a double dribble or dribbling violation) occurs when a player ends their dribble by catching or causing the ball to come to rest in one or both hands and then dribbles it again with one hand or when a player touches it before the ball hits the ground. The dribble also ends when the dribbler palms/carries the ball by allowing it to come to rest in one or both hands. This is a palming/carrying the ball violation if the player continues with another dribble. There is no violation during the jump ball, a throw-in or a free throw. Sylvester Blye
Sylvester "Sy" Blye (born February 14, 1938) was an American streetball, street and professional basketball player. Blye was famous in the Rucker Park league in New York City, being named to its Hall of Fame. He played briefly in college for Seattle Redhawks, Seattle University, before officials found he had played professionally for the Harlem Clowns and at West Hills College Coalinga (WHCC) in California. He also starred for the Philadelphia Tapers, Philadelphia/Washington/New York Tapers of the professional American Basketball League (1961–1963), American Basketball League. In the 1962/63 season, he scored the 4th most points. Blye is also 5th in career points and 7th in career rebounds in the ABL. Blye is listed as being deceased in his entry in the WHCC Athletic Hall of Fame.He is not deceased as of 4 Feb 2025. Kenny Brunner
Kenneth D. Brunner II (born December 8, 1978) is an American professional basketball coach and former player. Brunner played college basketball for the Georgetown Hoyas and the Southern Idaho Golden Eagles. Early life Bruner was born on December 8, 1978, in Los Angeles California. His father was an alcoholic and his mother was a drug addict so Bruner was raised primarily by his grandmother in Inglewood, California. He first played football but transitioned to basketball at the encouragement of his grandmother. To further develop his potential, Brunner was encouraged to attend Dominguez High School in Compton, California – an hour-long bus ride away from his home but where he created a reputation by playing streetball. Rafer Alston
Rafer Jamel Alston (born July 24, 1976), nicknamed "Skip 2 My Lou" after the American folk song and partner-stealing dance with the same name, is an American retired professional basketball player. Twenty-one (basketball)
Twenty-one, also called play21basketball, cutthroat, hustle, tip-it, noyceball, roughhouse, scutter, rough, or rebound is a popular variation of street basketball. The game is played with any number of players on a half court, but typically when not enough players are available to at least play three-on-three. Twenty-one is an individual game that does not utilize team play. Rules The rules and game play may vary regionally, locally, and even by specific court. Basic rules are as follows: Typically play begins with one player shooting the ball from a significant distance. This shot must hit the rim, but cannot go through the basket. If either of these violations occur, the ball must be re-shot. Once the ball is legally shot, all players then fight over the rebound. This is meant to mimic the "tip-off" of a standard game. Goaltending
Goaltending is a violation of the rules in the sport of basketball. It consists of certain forms of player interference with the ball while it is on its way to the basket. It is goaltending if a player touches the ball when it is (a) in downward flight; or (b) above the basket rim and within an imaginary cylinder projecting above the rim; or (c) already touching the rim; or (varying at certain levels of the sport) after it has touched the backboard and has a chance of going in the hoop.
