Stockstadt am Rhein is a municipality in Groß-Gerau district in Hesse, Germany, lying on the southern edge of the Frankfurt Rhein-Main Region. Geography Location Stockstadt lies in the Rhine rift right on the Kühkopf-Knoblochsaue EU reserve. The community lies at the mouth of the Modau, where it empties into the Rhine. Neighbouring communities Stockstadt borders in the north and east on the town of Riedstadt, in the south on the community of Biebesheim and in the west on the communities of Gimbsheim (Alzey-Worms) and Guntersblum (Mainz-Bingen). Viernheim () is a midsize industrial town on Mannheim's outskirts and is found in the Rhine Neckar Area, Rhine Neckar agglomeration and economic area. Pfungstadt () is a town of 25,029 inhabitants (2020), in the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg in the state of Hesse, Germany. History The town was first mentioned in 785 as property of the Monastery of Lorsch and got its town rights in 1886 due to its railway station. It is situated just west of the Odenwald hills, one of the closest being Frankenstein Castle, Frankenstein with its castle ruin of monstrous fame (Mary Shelley) on its summit. It is said Shelley used the name after asking a sailor on a Rhine trip to tell her the name of "this yonder castle".
