Stare (album)
''Stare'' is the third album by Russian rock band Gorky Park, released in 1996, originally under Nox Music in Russia. Background Before recording the album, the band began touring followed by Russia in 1994. The following year, they focus at their new studio in Los Angeles with new songs composed, many of them written by the duo of Alain Johannes and Natasha Shneider from Eleven band. Shortly before the recording began, the band incorporates a keyboardist, Nikolai Kuzminih, due to the evolution to a more progressive rock style. At the same time, they invited English session guitarist Allan Holdsworth and drummer Ron Powel. Back in Russia, the mix was made by Erwin Musper at the GDRZ Studio-5 with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. Gorky Park (international title), aka GP, or Парк Горького (Russian title) is a Soviet and Russian hard rock band formed in 1987 by musician, composer and producer Stas Namin at his producing centre SNC in Moscow.Arthur Gasparyan// mk.ru (02.03.2018) It is the only Soviet and Russian band to have some success on the MTV and Billboard charts, ''Billboard'' charts and become world famous. Hard rock or heavy rock is a heavier subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and Distortion (music), distorted electric guitars. Progressive Rock
Progressive rock (shortened as prog rock or simply prog) is a broad genre of rock music that primarily developed in the United Kingdom through the mid- to late 1960s, peaking in the early-to-mid-1970s. Initially termed " progressive pop", the style emerged from psychedelic bands who abandoned standard pop or rock traditions in favour of instrumental and compositional techniques more commonly associated with jazz, folk, or classical music, while retaining the instrumentation typical of rock music. Moscow Calling
''Moscow Сalling'' (titled ''Gorky Park 2'' in many countries, including Russia) is the second album by Russian rock band Gorky Park. It was released between 1992 and 1993. Four music videos were made for the album: " Moscow Calling", "Stranger", "I’m Going Down" and "Tell Me Why". Reception After Nikolai Noskov left the band in 1990, bassist Alexander Minkov took over as lead vocalist. AllMusic's Jason Anderson notes his "faux Joe Elliot vocals" and overall finds the album "at times extremely reminiscent of ''Pyromania''-era Def Leppard". The album went completely unnoticed in the U.S., where the band's MTV hit " Bang" was long forgotten by most rock enthusiasts and the taste of the audience had changed, but was well received in other countries. ''Protivofazza'' ( English: ''Antiphase'') is the fourth and final album by Russian rock band Gorky Park, released in 1998, originally under Nox Music in Russia. Background ''Protivofazza'' was released two years after its predecessor ''Stare''. Most songs from both albums were recorded in the same sessions in Los Angeles in 1994, because originally the band thought to release a double album (twenty-one songs were recorded and mixed that year), project that was finally discarded. In 1996, they quickly recorded only two new songs composed by Alexei Belov, to complete the fourth album. For this work, the group had softened its sound considerably, with an extensive use of keyboards instead of electric guitar in most songs. Alain Johannes
Alain Johannes Mociulski (born May 2, 1962) is a Chilean-American multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, whose primary instruments are guitar and bass. He is a founding member of several bands, including the alternative rock group Eleven, and has been involved with acts such as hard rock band Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, PJ Harvey, Chris Cornell, Arctic Monkeys, Mark Lanegan and The Desert Sessions, both as a musician and as a producer. Alain Johannes is nephew of Chilean musician Peter Rock. He was born in Santiago de Chile. He was married to Natasha Shneider from 1987 until her death in 2008. Natalia Mikhailovna Schneiderman ( rus, links=yes, Наталья Михайловна Шнайдерман, Natal'ya Mikhaylovna Shnayderman, nɐˈtalʲjə mʲɪˈxajlɐvnə ˈʂnajdʲɪrmən; May 22, 1956 – July 2, 2008), known as Natasha Shneider, was a Latvian-born Soviet-American musician and actress. She was most notably the keyboardist and vocalist in the band Eleven, along with her partner, bandmate Alain Johannes. Shneider contributed to tracks for Chris Cornell and Queens of the Stone Age, and together with Johannes toured with Cornell on his '' Euphoria Morning'' tour in 1999 and with Queens in 2005 on their '' Lullabies to Paralyze'' tour. Eleven (band)
Eleven was an American alternative rock supergroup from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1990 by Alain Johannes (vocals, guitar, sitar, horns), Natasha Shneider (vocals, keyboards, bass), and Jack Irons (drums). History Eleven's early history is intertwined with that of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. As teenagers Irons and Johannes formed the band Anthym with Flea and Hillel Slovak; this band was soon to be renamed What Is This. The members of What Is This then joined with Anthony Kiedis to form the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but Slovak and Irons also continued to record with Johannes, and What Is This released the EP '' Squeezed'' with Chris Hutchinson playing bass. Allan Holdsworth (6 August 1946 – 15 April 2017) was a British jazz and rock music, rock guitarist, violinist and composer. He contributed to numerous bands, including Soft Machine, U.K. (band), U.K., The Tony Williams Lifetime, Pierre Moerlen's Gong and Bruford (band), Bruford, in addition to solo work.
