FIA Formula 2 Championship
The FIA Formula 2 Championship (F2) is a second-tier single-seater championship organized by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). Held on road racing, racing circuits, the championship was introduced in 2017, following the rebranding of the long-term Formula One feeder series GP2 Series, GP2. The series' original founders were Flavio Briatore and current managing director Bruno Michel. While it is not necessary to do so, most current F1 drivers have participated in Formula 2 or GP2 before graduating to Formula One. It is the last step on the FIA Global Pathway from Karting to Formula One. Formula 2 is designed to create an ideal training ground for life in Formula One and make racing relatively affordable for the teams. The 2019 Spielberg Formula 2 round was a pair of motor races for Formula 2 cars that took place on 29 and 30 June 2019 at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, in Austria as part of the FIA Formula 2 Championship. It was the sixth round of the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship and ran in support of the 2019 Austrian Grand Prix. The 2022 Spielberg FIA Formula 2 round was a motor racing event held between 8 and 10 July 2022 at the Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, Austria. It was the eighth round of the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship and was held in support of the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix. Driver changes Prior to the eighth round in Spielberg, Campos Racing announced on 6 July that Roberto Merhi would make his Formula 2 comeback by replacing Swiss driver Ralph Boschung due to the effects of a neck injury sustained at the third round in Imola. At the age of 31 years, Merhi became the oldest driver to compete in a Formula 2 round. Hitech Grand Prix (formerly Hitech Racing, currently racing as Hitech TGR for sponsorship reasons) is a British motor racing team.
