Spencer 1882
Spencer 1882 is a pump-action shotgun designed by Christopher Miner Spencer and Sylvester Howard Roper, which was produced by the former's Spencer Arms Company from 1882 to 1889 or 1892, and subsequently by Francis Bannerman & Sons from 1890 to 1907. The design is credited as the first commercially successful pump-action shotgun to be the released to the markets, preceding John Browning's Winchester Repeating Arms Company, Winchester Winchester Model 1893, Model 1893 and Winchester Model 1897, Model 1897. Development and production history Christopher Miner Spencer had made a name for himself with the Spencer repeating rifle, which would be equipped by Union (American Civil War), Union Soldiers in late stages of the American Civil War. Pump-action Shotgun
Pump action is a type of manual firearm action that is operated by moving a sliding handguard on the gun's forestock. When shooting, the sliding forend is pulled rearward to eject any expended cartridge and typically to cock the hammer or striker, and then pushed forward to load a new cartridge into the chamber. Most pump-action firearms use an integral tubular magazine, although some do use detachable box magazines. Pump-action firearms are typically associated with shotguns, although it has also been used in rifles, grenade launchers, and other types of firearms. Annie Oakley
Annie Oakley (born Phoebe Ann Mosey; August 13, 1860 – November 3, 1926) was an American marksman, sharpshooter and folk heroine who starred in Buffalo Bill's Wild West. Oakley developed hunting skills as a child to provide for her impoverished family in western Ohio. At age 15, she won a shooting contest against an experienced marksman, Frank E. Butler, whom she married in 1876. The pair joined Buffalo Bill in 1885, performing in Europe before royalty and other heads of state. Audiences were astounded to see her shooting out a cigar from her husband's hand or splitting a playing-card edge-on at 30 paces. She earned more than anyone except Buffalo Bill himself. After a bad rail accident in 1901, she was forced to settle for a less taxing routine, and she toured in a play written about her career. A paper cartridge is one of various types of small arms ammunition used before the advent of the cartridge (firearms), metallic cartridge. The Winchester Repeating Arms Company was a prominent American manufacturer of Repeating rifle, repeating firearms and ammunition. The firm was established in 1866 by Oliver Winchester and was located in New Haven, Connecticut. The firm went into receivership in 1931 and was bought by the Western Cartridge Company, a forerunner of the Olin Corporation. A choke is a tapered constriction of a firearm gun barrel, barrel at its muzzle (firearm), muzzle end. Chokes are most commonly seen on shotguns, but are also used on some rifles, pistols, or even airguns. Notably, some .22 LR match rifles have a constricted bore diameter near the muzzle. Chokes are almost always used with modern hunting and target shotguns to improve performance.
