Sonia Raciti Oshry is a South African model and beauty pageant titleholder who won Miss South Africa 1998. She was the official representative of South Africa to the 48th Miss Universe pageant pageant held in Chaguaramas, Trinidad and Tobago on May 26, 1999, where she ended up as the 4th runner-up. She went on to represent South Africa in the 49th Miss World pageant held in London, England England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. Miss South Africa is a national beauty pageant in South Africa that selects South African representatives to compete in two of the Big Four international beauty pageants, Miss World and Miss Universe, and also selects another representative to participate in minor international pageant Miss Supranational. Miss Universe 1999, the 48th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 26 May 1999 at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre in Chaguaramas, Trinidad, Chaguaramas, Trinidad and Tobago. Chaguaramas, Trinidad
Chaguaramas (pronounced, in the local English dialect, "shag-gah-rah-muss") lies in the Northwest Peninsula of Trinidad west of Port of Spain; the name is often applied to the entire peninsula, but is sometimes used to refer to its most developed area. The developed area in Chaguaramas starts at ALCOA and ends at the Army and Coast Guard camps on the mainland. Miss World 1999, the 49th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 4 December 1999 at the Olympia Hall in London, United Kingdom. The pageant was hosted by Ulrika Jonsson and model Melanie Sykes. The 1999 pageant attracted 94 delegates from all over the world. The 1999 pageant also marked the first time that Scotland and Wales fielded their respective delegates.
