Songvår Lighthouse
Songvår Lighthouse ( no, Songvår fyrstasjon) is a coastal lighthouse in the municipality of Kristiansand in Agder county, Norway. The lighthouse sits on the island of Hellersøya, about south of the village of Høllen. The lighthouse was first built in 1888, and in 1955 a new lighthouse was constructed. The lighthouse was closed in 2004 and replaced with a smaller automated light tower, just southeast of the existing lighthouse. The present light was built in 2004 and it sits on top of a tall tower. The white, red, or green light (depending on direction) sits at an elevation of above sea level. The light can be seen for up to . The lights are on a 3 seconds on / 3 seconds off flashing sequence. The tower is white with one red stripe on it. The previous lighthouse is still standing, but it has not been used since 2004. That lighthouse was built in 1955. Agder
Agder is a county (''fylke'') and traditional region in the southern part of Norway. The county was established on 1 January 2020, when the old Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder counties were merged. Since the early 1900s, the term Sørlandet ("south country, south land, southland") has been commonly used for this region, sometimes with the inclusion of neighbouring Rogaland. Kristiansand is a seaside resort city and Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Agder county, Norway. Høllen
Høllen is a fishing village in Kristiansand municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located at the mouth of the river Søgneelva, between the villages of Eig to the west, Tangvall to the north, and Åros to the east. Høllen is part of the greater Søgne urban area. It has a well-protected harbour and over the centuries has had shipyards, a post office, and it was the site of a Thing in the 1500s. There is regular ferry boat service to Ny-Hellesund from Høllen. Søgne
Søgne is a former municipality in the old Vest-Agder county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until 2020 when it was merged with the municipalities of Songdalen and Kristiansand into the "new" Kristiansand municipality in what is now Agder county. It was located in the traditional district of Sørlandet, just outside of the city of Kristiansand. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Tangvall. Other villages in Søgne include Ausviga, Eig, Høllen, Langenes, Lohne, Lunde, Ny-Hellesund, Trysnes, Vedderheia, Ålo, and Åros. Prior to its dissolution in 2020, the municipality was the 354th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Lighthouses In Norway
The coast of Norway is 100,915 km long and there have been a total of 212 lighthouses along it, but no more than 154 have ever been operational at the same time. The first, Lindesnes Lighthouse, opened in 1655; the newest Lighthouse, Anda, was finished in 1932. The first Lighthouses were private operations, but in 1821 the government made the Channel and Harbor Inspector responsible for Lighthouses in Norway. A dedicated Lighthouse Administration was set up in 1841. The Lighthouses are today mostly automated and since 1974, run by the Norwegian Coastal Administration. Two lightvessels had been operated along the Norwegian coast.
