Sonam Lama is an Indian politician and monk in Sikkim. He is a minister in Second Tamang ministry. He was also a minister in First Tamang ministry. Political career Sonam Lama stood as the candidate of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) from Sangha (Vidhan Sabha constituency), Sangha constituency in the 2014 Sikkim Legislative Assembly election. He won and beat the candidate of ruling party Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF). In December 2015, 7 SKM Members of Sikkim Legislative Assembly defected to the ruling party SDF, but 2 other MLAs of SKM, Sonam Lama and Kunga Nima Lepcha stayed with their party. Sonam Lama stood as the SKM candidate from Sangha again. He won the seat and beat the SDF candidate by 26.52% margin. He was appointed to the Minister of Rural Management & Development, Panchayati Raj & Cooperative and Ecclesiastical affairs in First Tamang ministry, P. S. Golay Cabinet. Kunga Nima Lepcha is an Indian politician in Sikkim. He is the acting president of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), incumbent member of Sikkim Legislative Assembly and the state Minister of Prem Singh Tamang ministry. Political career At first, Kunga Nima Lepcha was the member of the ruling party, Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF). In January 2004, he seceded from SDF and joined Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee (SPCC: Sikkim branch of Indian National Congress (INC)). He became the spokesperson of SPCC at the later date. In 2004 and 2009 Sikkim Legislative Assembly election, he stood as the candidate of INC from Shyari constituency, but he lost and became a runner-up candidate in both elections. Sikkim Democratic Front
Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) is a regional political party in the Indian state of Sikkim. It was the ruling party in Sikkim from 12 December 1994 to 23 May 2019. History The party was founded by Pawan Kumar Chamling in 1993. It has ruled the Sikkim state from 1994 to 2019 with Pawan Kumar Chamling as the chief minister. The party consolidated its position sweeping the 1999 and 2004 state elections. It won 31 of the 32 assembly seats in the 2004 election. In the 2009 assembly election, the party made a clean sweep, winning all 32 seats. It also retained the lone Lok Sabha seat. In 2014 assembly elections, SDF won 22 seats and retained power. 2014 Sikkim Legislative Assembly Election
The election was held on 12 April 2014 for 9th assembly of Sikkim, the northeastern state of India. It elected 32 members of Sikkim Legislative Assembly. Background Pawan Chamling led SDF had already formed the previous four governments in Sikkim having first formed the government after the 1994 election, when they won 19 seats within a year of the party being formed, and then again after the 1999 election, when they increased their tally to 24 seats. Chamling's third term began on 21 May 2004 after increasing his tally to 31. In the 2009 Sikkim Legislative Assembly election, the SDF had a clean-sweep winning all 32 seats in the state assembly and Chamling sworn in as a Chief Minister fourth times on 20 May 2009.
